If you are of the view the VIC outbreak started on 13/7, the 14 day average on day 65 is 305.00. The NSW 14 day average on day 65 was 427.36

If you are of the view the VIC outbreak started on 5/8, the 14 day average on day 42 is 305.00. The NSW 14 day average on day 42 is 122.07.

Vic Cases today is 423. NSW Cases on Day 65 was 634. NSW Cases on Day 42 was 176.

Victoria on track to hit 80% double dose 6 weeks later than NSW according to 7:30. Didn't realise how much of an advantage NSW had in the vaccine rollout until seeing this.

The media are providing a lot of misleading data. they’re using COVID Live as their data point. The problem is that COVID Live are using 7 day averages to make future projections, so they are not factoring in higher uptake of vaccines.

COVID Base are factoring in the higher uptake of vaccines and are probably a more accurate reference. According to them, NSW will reach 80% of over 16s on October 21 and VIC on November 3 (13 days later). However, this data has changed a bit in recent days. late last week they were projecting VIC will reach 80% on October 25 and October 10 for NSW. While it does seem to change a bit, the trend appears to be that VIC are making ground on NSW.

Pandemic of the unvaccinated in US.
Staggering that administrators in the Southern states are discouraging vaccination. What a backward thinking
and self interested country with idiotic ideology ......hmmm, no different to most places on Earth I guess.

It's sad to see Vic has lost the covid battle. Now we need to concentrate on how we live with it. No point in trying to prevent that scenario.

Only the pro-Trump Republicans could politicise something so basic as a response to a pandemic. They are still spruiking hydroxychloroquin and ivermectin while denying that masks and vaccines work, while also claiming its a Chinese plot and/or a hoax.

Really clear data on when we will reach each stage. Now over to the governments to beat these timeframes.

Great effort by NSW to get to 1st dose 80%, they may well have started this wave but the NSW population have done well to come forward and get vaccinated.

The good citizens of the respective states now as much as Governments responsible to get targets as high as possible.

i remember when Biden was president elect, he came out and said “masks are not political.” I just shows the insanity of people who try the politicise something as basic as a mask. The Darwin awards deserve a new category.

Which is why we need to hold out fully opening without restrictions until we reach 90% of over 12's. Not only will it be safer, but a strong incentive to get vaccinated. state borders won’t open before we reach this point anyway, so we may as well make this our ultimate target.

I don't disagree with you Ian but I fear we may be waiting a long time to get to 90%. We will be getting well into the recalcitrants at that level
Hope I am wrong

The southern States - would they have higher rates of belief in religion? Is there a correlation between religious belief and anti-vax stance?

I think there is. Or at least a correlation between low IQ and anti-vax.

Think the Queensland Premier has made a mistake pumping up the Pfizer and again dismissing a readily available AZ.

I am doing some work around getting staff fully vaccinated. I am surprised by the number who are unvaccinated on religious grounds.
What religions are against vaccinations and on what grounds?
I had one say to me that "their body is God's temple" and they didn't want to introduce foreign substances into it. My question was if he takes panadol ? Only difference to me is that this one goes in via a needle in the arm. Maybe we need a oral COVID vaccine or maybe even better a suppository ...

I don't know on this subject.... but my two bobs worth....
Religiousness, anti vax and IQ....I don't think there is a direct correlation.
Sure, some people have all three, but as I wrote recently, I truly think all three are genetic with expression of genetic instruction dependent on many sociological factors.( some obvious exceptions).
But I don't think by any mean s they share a common genome.
Sometimes two or three could occur in unison but likely random.
Doesn't really matter does it. Don't really care anyway.

Yes. Data out there to support. It’s the same mental idea of wanting a simple explanation for complicated problems.

Religiosity Also correlates inversely with educational level attainment. At its core (and at one extreme) it’s difficult to maintain the cognitive dissonance of the earth started a few thousand years ago and there is a sky fairy controlling everything when you learn about science. Oh yes and every other religion is wrong except the one my parents/family indoctrinated me into. So (generalising) if you don’t do science/logic you are more likely to do religion/anti-vax.

I was able to get a 1st Pfizer jab for my 16yr old Grandson today had to travel a bit but it was worth it. I also booked him (locally) for his 2nd in late October. This means he will be double vaxxed before the date of the original 1st dose that I had previously been able book.

I'm one happy Grandpappy :D

It is absurd that it should be so difficult to get vaccinated.
We have had many many months to prepare for this..12 at the very least.
It should be possible to walk into a mass vax hub 24 hours in say half a dozen suburban locations around the city.
Just takes internet for electronic recording, staff to line them up, vaccinate, send home.
Could do tens of thousands every 24 hours. Supply dependent obviously .
It really is just like a flu vax and needs no special management .
We are doing much better but it is ridiculous that it is still so hard.
Note at the NRL game in Rockhampton people got vaxed as they came into the ground.
It s a race, really, to get vaccinated, out of lockdown and lose as few lives as possible in the process.

My partner showed me a social media post today which said that in the USA 8 times as many Republicans as Democrats are dying from COVID as they are far less likely to be vaccinated. Make of it what you will but I know which group I reckon is doing better out of this stand off about vaccination.

I hope you’re wrong too. We can only hope that the people dragging their feet will finally change their mind on vaccinations once we start to open and they wake up to a new reality where they are locked out of everywhere.

In the USA, there is a correlation between education standards and religious belief... the states with lower education standards have higher rates of believers. I reckon the anti-vax stance is a bit of both... lack of education and a lack of acceptance of science.
