what do you know Red

is he a wanker? or do you mean the kebab stuff ?
Perhaps best explained when, in a quick post game interview this year (or last…can’t remember) he said that his biggest improvement was his own personal development and that he needed to do some work in that area.

Internally, culturally etc we won’t miss CJ.
Agree - has that selfish / sooky reputation. Balme's comments were pretty pointed yesterday using the word selfish to describe CJ's thinking right now.

Its a knock on our recruiters who pride themselves on getting guys of good character that they picked Higgins and CCJ as our 1st 2 picks in 17 which was an unbelievably talented draft.

The strong impression I get is that we didn't rate him anyway. He has shown glimpse's as a key forward but shown nothing in the ruck even at VFL level.

He was played this year in an effort to get his trade value up. A good plan only let down by the fact the campaigner picked the club with PSD no.1

Genuine? Or conjecture? The kid was Capt of SA at a young age.
I suppose most take the view that Stack led him astray lastyear. ... maybe it was him. Either way, from the outside looking in, his leadership was somewhat lacking when required.

I'm just hoping that this is some sort of confirmation that Soldo is in fact okay and the reports of him "flying" are true. It could also indicate a confidence in Sampson.
I'm disappointed in CCJ. He was well and truly in the mix at the end of this year.
Noah Cumberland is another factor in all of this. I look to him re-signing in the light of Mabs and CCJ taking flight.

We have proven that you can't keep quality depth with the salary cap squeeze. It is what it is...

The onus on us is to now salvage something from the mess we've created by getting something for him, even though it will be very little.
Why would you think that this situation is a mess? We just were not willing to pay him more than what he was worth both on and off field. Smart list management. Compensation the key when assessing result.

I don't agree with that part. Firstly a trade wouldn't have anything to do with him anyway in terms of accepting it and secondly he's a young man who has a life changing opportunity in front of him, I couldn't begrudge him for taking it.
Reckon if the situation was reversed and we had all the cards we would play it tough

Not sure why you are reading that as dislike?

I'm just saying now those two boys are gone Riewoldt and Lynch are going to have to play three good years of footy togther if we are going to contend, because that's how long it will take at minimum to bring on replacements (unless we pinch one).
Ok cheers, I seem remember you once posting that Jack's an ordinary bloke on and of the field, or words to that effect.

Don't really agree with this.

It is very strange we are only offering a 2 year contract. Was he seriously a big chance to be delisted in two years?

We've held onto Miller who has shown far less for coming up 5 years.

We have either:

1) Decided we're not serious about keeping him and want the $$$ spent elsewhere

2) Got ahead of ourselves and thought low-balling an in-demand player will still see him sign-on

Given the massive discrepancy in contracts it didn't become an opportunity decision for CCJ. We took that one out of his hands.

Leysy thinks he will be a very very good ruckman in a few years. Hopefully Samson becomes that for us.

I just can't see any way we could have made an offer to CCJ which was anywhere near what North can offer, plus I reckon North will be paying overs given what we now about CCJ at this point. The gamble might pay off for North, or it might not.

I agree that tall forward/rucks are not easy to find but they also don't have the most impressive strike rate when it comes to developing into regular players or A grade players. We simply can't afford the cap space to hold on to a player who has had 4 years and we're still unsure if he will be good enough.

If he can get twice the $$, for twice as long to play at North, and all things considered with where he sits on our list, and I was his manager, I'd be advising him to go.

ive got no hard feelings.

and I dont think its a huge risk for us.

we have two young premiership ruckmen. at 27 and 25, they are babies. they could do the bulk of our ruck work for the next 5 years, with Sampson and mate as the projects boiling away and time to get another couple on the back burner.

Melbourne hit the absolute jackpot with Jackson. Fancy a huge, snakey, athletic bloke with great mitts imposing himself in the ruck at 19?

an extraordinary coup kind of beyond belief.
He was a top 3 pick,so no surprise, only finishing bottom 4 for ever allowed demons to build this side.

got to give credit where credit is due.

the Jackson Pickett Rivers draft was an absolute doozy. then backed it up with Bowey, who is a ripper.

we've got a similar suite of picks this draft.

I don't believe that. We want to keep him but another club has given him a much better offer and he has taken it. Pretty simple really.

Nah, not that simple.

We need him less than North, hence the market wins.

Melbourne have set the standard over the last four years. We haven't had the same picks so it's not fair to compare but they have set the standard with sustained excellence at the draft/trade tables.

2017 - Lever, Spargo, Fritsch, Petty.
2018 - May, Sparrow, Jordan.
2019 - Langdon, Jackson, Pickett, Rivers.
2020 - Brown, Bowey.

When you add that to the top end core of Gawn, Pettraca, Oliver and Viney they are set up for a four year plus window of success.

Maybe we should email them and see which players they like for this draft
