There is an interview I saw with Hocking where he mentions Richmond and how good Cotchin is at blocking space and that the stand rule will open up the game and relieve pressure like that and stop teams ( RICHMOND) from applying too much pressure on kicks and allow free flowing football ( perfect for Geelong)
As far as I am concerned this man has been Geelong supporting throughout his entire tenure, he has implemented rules to assist their slow precision game style, he helped Hawkins with the hands in the back rule, he was spent until that rule came in, think about all the injuries that bloke has caused by shoving players in the back, Soldo was caused 100% by Hawkins pushing Balta into him.
he has tried to stop the Richmond pressure game since we beat Geelong in 2017, 6,6,6 was initially designed to stop Richmond.
He has kept Geelong relevant and I believe was expecting them to go further than they did this year, hence he took a job there. Geelong will still be protected with Brad Scott in that position, so expect no support for Richmond any time soon. Just look at his face as Dimma comes out in 2020 after mauling his beloved cats, he was on a mission to beat Richmond and I believe the stand rule did make a difference, on top of all the injuries.

Hardwick actually looks a bit like Beavis in this pic.

The SANFL play last DISPOSAL is OOB, so a spoil or a fumble or a ruck punch aren’t penalised.
If you choose to keep a rule, this is how it must look. No grey, black and white.
Currently I cannot believe an umpire, any umpire is allowed to influence the game with their interpretation of a felling about someone else's intention. Just the element of banning illegal gambling should be enough to get this *smile* changed.

Very good insightful article by KB in today's HS.
He wants the statue rule scrapped and also the rotations reduced.
I believe he is blaming Shocking for these stupid rules.
Also, he outlines a few other changes.
Mentions that the game was virtually unchanged for 100 years without any problems, or words to the effect.
Well worth a read if you can get hold of it.. makes a lot of sense.

Not sure how you draw that conclusion, I've been back in Australia watching games live for 10 years and during that time every team has played 14-18 man defences when they have the time to set up.
TBR I agree with you however the speed of the game has slowed down due to the stand rule. It's now swung to control as opposed to quick chaos ball movement. However, having said that the two GF teams both liked to move the ball more quickly than say Geelong. The aim is to move the ball qucikly and avoid the flood to defence.

It is interesting that over the longer term - since the days of Hafey and Len Smith before him (who was Hafey's mentor and some say a better coach than Norm Smith) - that fast footy almost always prevails. See the attached article that outlines Hafey's thoughts from I think about 1968/9

Can the new bloke come in and get rid of some of these ridiculous rules immidatly?
Or is there a time frame each rule has to be in the game.
Because the Stand rule will drive people away from the game

Single handily he changed rules to bend us over and the cocky prick even admitted to it.
Now he sneaks away under a rock at Karadinia park.
If it was good enough for assic to get rid of a premier of a state for improper dealings. How is this bloke still allowed to work in the AFL?
Im shocked Balme or Gale didnt unleash on him on the way out.

This thread just keeps reminding me what a *smile* he is. It’s a perfect metaphor. He is the *smile* that no matter how much you flush and want it to go away, it just keeps popping up and won’t go away

The most sophisticated description possible:

He’s just dumb.

From the AFL app:

"I've had a fair bit to do with Ross at the AFL ... Ross was one of a number of people we've spoken to. One of the great things about Ross, which Chris and I both enjoyed, was he gave us an external view of what he sees as our football club.

Translation: An outsider‘s opinion was from an outsider’s perspective. He loved this novel concept.

Grade: D-
Steve misrepresented himself as being more influential to Geelong than he really was. Amidst disjointed thoughts in which he trailed off, Steve admitted to failing to land his headhunted target, and yet, he not only went public with it despite failing, but he also tried to take credit for bringing fresh views into the club despite failing to land his publicly stated target.

The potential opportunities that might be in front of us, where the game's going. I was very appreciative of the time he gave us and the insight he provided us and he was a good sounding board."

Translation: Ross said the rules I put into place will continue to favour my club next year. He’s good and he’s good and he’s good.

Grade: D+
Amidst confused grammar and content rich with naivety, Steve shocks the world in this first piece of evidence that it is indeed possible to speak relatively clearly even with the condition of having one’s foot in one’s mouth.

"(Scott's) a smart coach, we're going to put some new people around him," Hocking said.

Grade: F

Dripping in irony, the single trait of intelligence was used to praise a coach Steve plans to build around. A “smart coach“ longing for public endorsement of him being a “smart coach” is akin to an “athletic accountant” who demands his clients advertise him by word-of-mouth as an “athletic accountant”. Creative use of logic in this public job performance endorsement.

"Clearly I've got some thoughts on what we need to do, and at the moment my focus has been in the first few weeks down in football.

Translation: I have the answers, obviously I have the answers - I‘m just not giving them out because I haven’t thought about it yet. Nevertheless, I’m holding the map and I know where to go.

Grade: F
Me, me, me.

"By the end of this week, my eyes will come up and I'll be engaging in other parts of the club."

I can’t.

This guy’s undeserved ego is drenched in primary school logic and 1940’s gangster confidence.

We are incredibly lucky for this stooge in the shadows of Geelong to have sabotaged our #1 threat to our recent premierships.

We are even luckier to have Benny Gale leading us as the classiest, most thoughtful, and genuinely wise leader in AFL circles by the length of the Flemington straight, so they say.

In summary, Hocking is an absolute fool and he should be eternally grateful to have retained a level of power above his warranted status as a toilet cleaner. That is all.

I tried reading this article yesterday but seriously I gave up. I had no idea what he was trying to say. He came across, to me, as someone more interested in just saying a lot of words with out saying anything of substance or meaning.

He clearly comes across as someone well versed in corporate speak, where you can say a lot of gobbledygook without really saying anything.

I have watched a lot of replays in the last 2 months given that real footy finished in August this year. Watched a lot of guys on the mark and I still can't understand what the problem was he was trying to solve.

The problem was the Tiges winning too many games during the saeson and then taking back to Punt Rd three out of four novelty size tea-pots.
