I'm on Ross as long as he is played in the middle. Saw enough in the last game to know he is a walk-up start as a mid.

I don't think RCD is ready to explode in 22, but he'll definitely improve.
I can see Hugo and Dow seeing a lot more time. Positions we have vacancies and little competition in.
RCD will be competing against Prestia, Cotchin, Martyn, Ross etc.

I agree but that is one of his problems. He is a pure on baller and I worry a bit that he lacks any versatility. His role right now is back up to Prestia and Cotchin

I can't see Cotch lasting a full year in the middle.

I also don't see the problem with one dimensional mids. I couldn't see Prestia being any less one dimensional. He couldn't play forward or back. Ross is no different. As long as he picks up his 25 touches a game, why would we care?

If Ross and RCD are going to make the level we need them to be and not just handy types, then they must be best 22 come round 1 , no more excuses , they’ve had enough time to be ready

I agree. I’m just saying that he is behind those two and we can’t have too many in the team.
I too am concerned about Cotchin. Suspect he will limp to the finishing line

Agree with that. 2022 is now or never for both and a big summer awaits each to be able to do it. They have the ability but do they have the desire to get there.

Ross and Martyn need to do something or they both will likely be out the door at years end, they could both be usurped by one or two of our high end draft picks and if they are they are pretty much toast.

Riley also really needs to step it up and Dow needs to get on the Park.

When we use the word "development" I think we're talking about outside forces like trainers, fitness staff, yoga instructors, and in particular, coaches teaching new skills to young players and improving them. We also think about a player getting opportunities to try higher challenges - say playing VFL rather than U18. It's slow burn.

Our youngsters do get the chance to pit themselves against vastly more experienced opponents at training and in various exercises. And that's part of development. But mainly it's a chance to quickly sort those who are good to go.

If young Kevin Bartlett walks in the door tomorrow nobody will be able to catch him. And development will be about opportunity at elite level more that a slow cultivation through the grades. That's what our existing crop of youngsters is ready for. They're not the types who walk in the door and demonstrate eliteness.

They are slower burn.

I'm looking for the Cummerbund to come thundering in from left field next year.
I'll be more than happy for a few of our fringies to start pushing the older champs into retirement, now that they've had a taste of senior footy. And I mean pushing them aside via growing performance not just filling injury holes.
