As I said all along, a deal would be done. It was not going to the PSD for that reason. TBR's right - I think that statement was an ambit claim from CJ and his management. We'll never know exactly what would have happened if a deal was not done.

If Richmond knew that CCJ and his manager had said that no PSD option then why didn't we just stick out for best deal? Did we actually not mind him leaving?

Hope Goldstein is unavailable when we play Norf. Want to see how he does agin' Nank.
At the moment Nank would maul him and he also would beat him on the ground, can't see CCJ competing post hitout with someone like Nank.
CCJ's strength was always that he had good hands, can take a clunk. I have never seen him as viable ruck, not competitive enough. But he is only 22

Brady Rawlings has said today that CCJ management confirmed he wouldn't come to the club if they forced him in via the PSD.

Important lesson for all the chicken littles worried about us having no leverage that the real leverage rests with the player and their manager.

He was never going into the PSD.
You know your fked as a sporting organisation when you have a bloke like Brady Bunch Rawlings running your football dept.

We essentially did get Pick 20 in next year’s draft, it’s just the deal was complex enough to bamboozle Tasmania.

I think we've seen that at the trade table we'll do deals that suit both parties, or at least one does not get totally screwed.

I don't buy the sour grapes argument that we didn't want him either. We needed him as forward tall cover for Reiwoldt and Lynch.

I also think that once a player decides to leave, very hard to make them stay. I've stayed in a couple of jobs because employers wanted me to stay when I wanted to leave and offered more money... but ultimately I left because the fundamental reasons of job enjoyment etc hadn't changed. So the argument we could have persuaded him to stay seems a stretch also.

I know Goldstein is getting on but North haven't had a successful 2nd ruck play under him really. Goldstein likes to play exclusively in the ruck and for pretty much an entire game.

C'mon all. I tried to create some amusement during a dull trade week. But isn't it now time to let the zombie rest?

Trading out CCJ and drafting in a bunch of kids is all part of the plan I reckon to leave dollars in the kitty to grab a couple of FAs over the few years that will be way better than a player that was neither an A grade quality KPF or ruck.

CJ had a hitout against Xerri in the intraclub.

On Xerri, North hunted CJ despite already having Xerri on the list. And last year, with a fit Xerri on the list played Tom Campbell, in sheer desperation, as a forward/ruck. He was passable at first then occasionally terrible. But always vastly superior to Tristan Xerri.

When the season was shot there was no point persevering with a geriatric. Norf had to further test and develop Xerri. He improved a little, getting plenty of TOG (+70%) and ruck opportunities. And getting some not worthless numbers.

But when North went after Coleman Jones it was no surprise. And when Xerri came up in trade talks it looked inevitable. That they wanted a second rounder is hilarious but eh. You can always ask.

Now we find that North is talking up the rivalry between CJ and Xerri for a spot in the side. Who are they trying to spur on? Surely CJ walks in ahead of Xerri.

CJ's big strength should be his around the ground marking. He doesn't get much air and he's not tall but he can position. And he can lead and catch. He's very good with disposal vision and execution. He can be brilliant by hand. But his ground game is not strong. (Compare with Nankervis, who is quick, brutal and hits low.) CJ is an upright player.

Xerri is nimble at ground level and can tackle. There's not much else going on in this department as yet. And he rarely jumps. He's got no bounce.

Anyway, CJ has to beat Xerri for the change ruck role. Comben looks a lock but won't ruck. CJ should be able to kick more than Xerri. And we'll get a good look at him this season. Noble is talking about him as a future #1 ruck.
