Sad to see Smith gone. Such a likeable and truly committed Villa man,... it's awful. But it's a relief. We were heading south. Feel more optimistic already... haha

He's done well to win over the fans, but he just needs a couple of losses in a row to change that good will.

If he keeps it up he'll be a premier league coach soon enough. That's going to really annoy the NSW based FA Media pack.

He's already had a few losses, including a 4-0 thumping at Celtic against Real Betis in the Europa league. There were some whinging then but they understand the squad is pretty thin. I think he's won even the doubters over now.

Look to Celtic being active in the Jan transfer window - apparently Maeda is another Japanese mid in the frame.

Also Stevie G might be leaving Rangers for Aston Villa which could work out nice for Celtic. Imagine if Ange wins the League in his first year after inheriting a basket case from Lennon.

Be interesting to see who we go for.

yeah, I'd be surprised if they took Ange, let him prove himself with Celtic first. Would be amazing going from Yokohama Marinos to a Prem club in less than a year. Mind you Wenger went from Nagoya to Arsenal but he'd managed in Ligue 1 before then.

As a Villan yourself who would you like glantone? A dour Allardyce type to save them from relegation or a high risk attacker like Postecoglou? Or someone else?

I really don't know. I've read the news, the prospects, and listen to the chatter and checked the odds and I really don't know. Just hope we make the right decision. Relegation is so out of the question in my head so not interested in a dour type. One thing about Smith was he was an attacking manager.

Whoever we get it'll be exciting. Hope he's attacking and as eccentric as hell!

Roberto Martinez also mentioned I see.

Having read the Ange article I see it's only Michael Bridges spruiking him so unlikely as all hell. My ex-GF is a brummie and my best mate worked at Aston Uni for a while so I kind of know Birmingham... Hope they get a good manager whoever it is.

Disruption to Rangers will benefit Celtic and Ange too no doubt.

Gerrard couldn't cop the heat coming from Big Ange so has skulked off to the kinder, friendlier realm of the EPL

Actually there are some great docos on Youtube about the rivalry between Celtic and that other mob. Well worth watching. Got way out of hand. Scottish parliament had to enact laws to control the expression of hatred between those 2 lunatic clans.

Couldn’t be happier with Gerrard. Before he was appointed wasn’t sure if he had enough experience managing at elite levels but successful management on the whole seems to be a complicated business depending player/manager/board and ‘the stars’ all being aligned on the same page. Feel ecstatic at the moment. Hope to see a more confident Villa in the next 6 weeks.

Another big week. Be hoping Villa play manfully under Gerrard, Smith does well at Norwich, and Watford etch out a point against Man U. Expect Brentford to shine again.

Liverpool 4 Arsenal zip
Gee they’re in good form. Arsenal have been playing well but the Scousers made them look like a Championship team.

Could have been more as well, if not for Ramsdale - ex AFC Wimbledon loanee legend.
