would you defend "tooth and nail" a persons right to yell racist abuse at the footy? or does "free speech" only go so far?
The last time I looked racial abuse is against the law? Currently there is no law against non vaccination.

I wonder if we would have lost Rance. Don't know the Mormons position on this. Maybe he won't be able to work for the dons after all.

should you be fighting that law? or would be ok if the government made a law that said to vocally oppose vaccinations was a crime?

so she is 100% protected? so if everyone was vaccinated Covid would cease?

or does getting vaccinated reduce the chance of transmission? So if both she and Jones were vaccinated the chance he could give it to her would be reduced?
I mean I don’t know how even vaccinated people can see their grandmothers, don’t they know they could reduce the risk even more by not even visiting their grandmother?

You are now playing with semantics Bro17. Throw one back to you now. If you wanted all persons to be vaccinated because of the belief that it will save lives fine. But will you (assuming you partake) stop smoking, stop driving a car, stop drinking, stop having sex because of the same belief?Where do you draw the line?

Seem to recall that Rance was not of Mormon faith but rather a Jehovah's Witness.

If you wind back to where I made my post Jazzy, you would see it relates to question asked around we live in a democratic society giving us the freedoms such as choice and speechWhether I agree,or disagree with someone's ideals etc is immaterial. But I will fight tooth and nail for that person's right to air his views.Anything else becomes zealotry and one thing for sure we have plenty of that in human history.
No one has taken that away have they?

You can air your views, but expect views on topics such as this to be pretty heavily scrutinised. And if you make *smile* up expect to be pulled up. It's no different to views on football, politics etc.

Everyone forgets the government is making decisions based on the greater good. They are trying to take everyone into consideration when making such big decisions. With a focus on the most vulnerable. So if you choose not to get vaccinated there may be consequences because the advice to gov't that for the greater good vaccination of the population will be better for more people than not being vaccinated. The evidence is pretty stark that health outcomes for the majority of people are better if vaccinated than if not. And I'm not arguing about transmissibility, I am yet to read studies showing significant reduction in transmissibility of covid amongst the vaccinated. But the reduction in serious illness and hospitalisation is without question.

This "freedom" call I read everywhere is a bit of a crock IMO. We all give up certain freedoms when we choose to live in a community. Some freedoms are given up by law, some because we understand living in a community means we should think of others as well as ourselves in certain instances. I might like playing loud music at 4am but I'm pretty sure my neighbours don't. So I choose not to do it. If I did it, I'd expect a knock on the door from the cops at some stage to say turn it down/off. When I park my car on the street I think of my neighbours when I park. I don't take up 2 spots, I don't park too from the curb etc.

No semantics. You oppose restrictions on free speech unless it is against the law. Shouldn't you oppose laws which restrict free speech? Or do you pick and choose when free speech is worth fighting for?

They could, but that would negatively
affect their grandmother's quality of life. Which, because vaccinated people arent selfish ( in this regard), they don't want to do.

You also ignored my questions.

we will find out, cos he wont be able to continue coaching at Essendon if he isnt vaccinated.
Jehovah's Witnesses revised their stance against vaccination in 1952:

The following Christian denominations have no theological objection to vaccination:
...

  • Jehovah's Witness - Note: This denomination originally denounced vaccination, but revised this doctrine in 1952. An article in a recent issue of the church's newsletter promotes vaccination to avoid infectious diseases.

Avoid infectious disease. Avoid close physical contact or the sharing of eating utensils with any who have a cold or the flu. Their saliva and nasal secretions can pass the illness on to you. Such blood-borne diseases as hepatitis B and C and HIV/AIDS are transmitted primarily through sexual contact, intravenous drug use, and transfusion. Vaccination can help to prevent some infections, but a wise person must still take necessary precautions when with someone who has an infectious disease. Avoid insect bites. Do not sit or sleep outdoors unprotected when mosquitoes or other disease-carrying insects are active. Use bed nets, especially for children, and use insect repellents.

So if he isn't vaccinated, he's just a regular idiot.... ;)

I'm staggered by this. Absolutely staggered.

Perhaps no better encapsulation of the times we live in when a professional sportsman whose educational qualifications are completing year 12 while on an AFL list and whose medical qualifications are zero, dismisses the advice of multiple medical experts with vast amounts of qualifications, experience and knowledge.
Well it’s not like they are allowed to tell him anything else. There is the approved line from up above that is the only line a doctor can follow, they have no freedom to recommend otherwise.
