Ok I’m over my elite mid disappointment. Only took me a day.

The Sonz has satisfied me for now

Love Gibcus already, make space for me on the hype train

I honestly reckon The Sonz is top 3 elite mid in the draft.

attributes coming our his arse. quick, beautiful leg(s), finds the goals.

will be a natural FP until he build his midfield tank

Not as good as Heppell and another Essendon player rocking up at the London Tavern to welcome Hobbs personally.
Just Seagull hovering around to scrounge up a freebie, seems he also brought some of his flock along to help scavenge.

Be fascinating to see which group he trains with over summer.
Strong rumours they’re going to play him as a forward.

Re: Pick 9: Josh Gibcus
Leigh Montagna says: “There’s a little birdie saying maybe Richmond are flirting with Gibcus as a forward. We know they didn’t take a tall forward in this draft and we know Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt are closer to the end than the start of their careers and they’ve lost Coleman-Jones and Mabior Chol. Maybe keep an eye over the pre-season on whether Gibcus trains with the forwards. We know he can be an elite intercept defender if need be and can always go back in time, but they’ve got Noah Balta and while they’ve still got Grimes and a few others maybe they can experiment with him forward.

Kevin Sheehan says: “I haven’t seen Gibcus forward but he’s a wonderful athlete and a coachable athlete. We’ve seen so much of that over time where we think they’re such and such but they change as they get into the professional era with the clubs.”

an intercept forward?
The best type!!
Apparently played a lot of forward as a junior.

Another interesting thing is there seems to be total confusion about his height.
Ranging from 195-197cm depending which article you read.

given he literally hit the roof in leap testing,

I think 2cm give or take is pretty irrelevant.

I think we can look to the future with some optimism that Gibcus can replicate the form of Ben McKay and with some luck push towards a Harry McKay type impact. The other big advantage in going tall this year is having a developing key position prospect enter the system a year earlier than most of the competition. Gibcus should be ready earlier than the other more risky types like Andrew & Alleer, his skill set is a lot more advanced as a playmaker and despite the fact he can bite off more than he can chew from time to time, his attacking flare is head and shoulders above the second tier defenders. The gulf between pick 9 & 15 will soon become apparent & those bedazzled by a few extra centimetres on the jumping front might be in a for a reality check when it comes to all round adaptability.

As a footnote, picking Gibcus may well have delivered us Sonsie, the GWS reach was largely due to Gibcus being off the board. GWS were clearly aware of the gulf, they tried and failed to secure Gibcus after opting for Callaghan. Having that bolter in the first round looks to have had a ripple effect down the order.

Without dampening the excitement surrounding Barry, the hitting the roof anecdote might become folklore.
Testing in a basement carpark organised by a bloke in his 50s saying no one will jump that high.
Now we will never know his true leap. Recruiters can only surmise that he could've been a record breaker.

Was it a ruse?
Was it his uncle who set it up beneath a roof beam?

I heard it was actually a glass bottomed pool on the floor above, Josh completely shattered it and washed all the attendees about 500m down the road in a biblical Tsunami. AND Steve Hocking was swimming laps at the time, and was left flopping bewildered on the basement floor.
