Scoop, you said it perfectly. Let's hope Dustin and his brothers get all the support they need.
I'm still in shock.
These last two years have been so trying for so many. I worry it's starting to catch up with people - what a tragedy for the family; all families that face these tragedies.
I've never met Dusty, but I just want to give him the biggest hug and tell him that everything will be okay. And that he has made his dad so proud.
in no small way, this great Tiger Dynasty, came from the loins of Shane.
and so I grieve with Dusty, unconditionally (a lie, its pretty conditional. on premierships)
and I speculate, what a shame that Shane hadn't the tutelage of the mind that his son had,
to maybe grasp that The Devil is a sneaky little *smile*, with only one grim trick?
but theres a legacy,
that can never be undone.

I had the privilege of meeting Shane on a couple of occasions pre-game. First time we crossed paths walking to the G and started chatting and from that chat he went out of his way for my son to meet Dusty.

Had the pleasure of having a beer with Mr Martin at a B & F one year , was just a couple of proud dads talking about their boys , thing was he didn’t want to just talk about his young fella Dustin , he appeared genuinely interested in my young blokes life .
Was at the footy a few years back with my young bloke , I turned around and just behind us was Shane , I said to my son “ that’s Dustys dad behind us “ my son stood up turned around and blurted out “ where’s Dustys dad” the entire Olympic stand now knew where Dustys dad was ,anyway for the next half an hour Shane had to do more selfie’s then Dusty, and with each one he removed his shades and gave a flex , more then happy to do so .

I've never been a shameless Dusty apologist and I've always been willing to have a chuckle at some of his shenanigans on the way home from church or choir practice - but for something like this to happen to him right now when he finally seems to have been figuring out who he is and finding his way is just so unfair and so wrong.

The facts are a father had been separated from his 3 sons and 2 step daughters for a number of years and the only way he could see them was in another country than Australia. On top of that this pandemic has made even that almost impossible. That's a massive load to carry especially when he seemed to be so close to his kids.
I don't make any judgements about Shane Martin's life because I don't know much about it. All I would say is that i remember hearing Dusty talk about Marlion Pickett after the 2019 grand final where he talked about everyone making mistakes and being proud of our club giving Marlion a 2nd chance. I wondered at the time whether Dusty was talking about his Dad as well. He talked a lot about 2nd chances. Maybe he was also talking about himself.
My suspicion is that Dusty will use this as motivation for his footy not the opposite.

A lot will depend on how he processes his grief. If he pushes through with footy and doesn't process it now, it may affect him at various stages later on.
