Listened to Pfizer CEO’s interview with Lex Friedman on the weekend, came across as ‘slightly’ arrogant. To sum up, the vaccine is the safest drug of all time, the new antiviral is a Miracle, nothing else works, the company is an A+ social citizen and any criticism is lunacy.
When's the antiviral gonna be used here?

Just hope this shortage of workers doesn't get worse with waste truck drivers, as we don't want to end up being the world's most stinkable city.....especially with these daily light winds and humidity still around.

You'd think that the transport industry (particularly waste and haulage drivers) should be the easiest to loosen the restrictions around. They largely drive by themselves so won't meet with many people, the problems that they would come into would be when they drop their loads (should be easy enough to not come into contact with anyone) and refuelling (a bit more problematic but should be able to do using company credit cards).

Surely the government could come up with a better way for this industry when they have minimal symptoms, so they can continue to work.

We don’t talk about early treatment for Covid, why bother when there’s a safe and effective vaccine......apparently losing weight and having sufficient levels of Vitamin D helps too, who knows

There does appear to be a link between obesity and the disease. I suspect this is 1 of the reasons why some countries have significantly lower fatality rates. Countries such as India with much younger and thinner populations than the Western worlds current levels of obesity have much lower rates of death so probably something in it.

So after Morrison and Perrotte were desperate to get things back to normal, Morrison is now saying we need to be patient, because there are so many people with Covid, it is putting a lot of people out of the workforce.

So ScoMo patience you say, how about us being angry instead. The shortage of workers is on Perrotte and you Morrison.
Fancy easing restrictions on December 15, almost 1 million cases in 4 weeks.

I’m no doctor but my guess is being obese makes your lungs work harder.

Dr google turned up plenty of studies confirming this. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28284316/

Getting Covid makes your lungs work harder.

So you have less room “for error” if you have both things happening.

Amazingly, losing weight and getting outdoors helps with a lot of things.

Crazy isn’t it, with the current pressure on the healthcare system l would have thought that such simple measures would be discussed and encouraged a lot more. Easier to get a jab and go back to eating KFC though l guess

There are an enormous number of drugs for the treatment of COVID-19 under clinical trial here atm. Approved use requires TGA approval and that requires the drug companies to apply for it, requiring significant amounts of data on efficacy and safety.

Drug companies will always target the biggest markets first which is why they are inevitably approved in USA and Europe before us.

yes, curing the western obesity epidemic is simple and wouldn't take long either.

This is a whole other subject

Public health measures save lives but they also save money. Things like losing weight, stopping smoking, exercise, good diet eventually reduce hospital presentations and trips to the GP therefore reducing demand on the health system.

But who is responsible ? The commonwealth runs primary care i.e. GPs and most specialist outpatients and funds it through medicare but Hospitals have a major role to play as well and hospitals are run by the states. Both the Commonwealth and the States have public health units

Get the picture ? It is one of the list that noone is sure who is responsible for it. If we have learned anything in this pandemic I would hope it is that responsibility for so many parts of public health need to be made much clearer. In fact it has shown weaknesses in many parts of our federation model.
