yes, curing the western obesity epidemic is simple and wouldn't take long either.
Actually it would be unbelievably difficult but in light of the pandemic l would have thought that our leaders (politicians and medical officers alike) could spend a small portion of their daily media appearances to at least outline the health benefits of good health aka diet and exercise. ‘Hey, there is something the majority of you can do to reduce your likelihood of severe illness from Covid that also has a positive impact on essentially every other health measure too....’ pretty easy sales pitch.

Even if a small percentage of people would hear the message and improve their health it’s be worth it

'Unforseen'.

Morrison and Perrottet, knowing how contagious Omicron was, opened the stable stalls letting the horses bolt on Dec 15.
It’s now dawned on them that they should’ve first ordered RAT kits.
I don’t know why Labor and the press aren’t asking more question on why Morrison hadn’t first ensured there was enough kits.

And that would do nothing. Easy sales pitches from politicians don't work when it comes to lifestyle choices. Hell, your GP can tell you to lose weight, and they do - more effective than a politician saying it, but still very few people actually act on this advice.

Look, the fact that obesity is a big problem in many societies, and increases misery and suffering and cost and strain on health systems is undeniable. Public health initiatives save lives, but of course are seen by the types of people who are against vaccination as nanny state interference.

Making this the response to the Covid epidemic is nonsensical.

This is of no concern to me, my wife has been at me for years to get a few inches taken off:cool:

A man has claimed his *smile* shrunk as a result of Covid.

*smile* the bed.

This should write itself in a vaccine brochure. You don't want long Covid as these are some of the potential issues.

"Almost 5 per cent of men suffered a “decrease in size of testicles/*smile*”, according to the findings which were published in the Lancet’s EClinicalMedicine.

Around 15 per cent of men reported sexual dysfunction."

Albanese was on ABC News Breakfast this morning talking about it. As for the Press well we know why.
Cheers, I’m out of the loop a bit at the moment. Up at Kalbarri, do yourself a favour and check out “Natures Window and the Skywalk” if ever you ever get over to Wa.

I would think that now would be the one time when the message has a better chance of getting through if the benefits are clearly articulated and linked with o Covid outcomes.

I would say that not having as part of the Covid response is nonsensical. It doesn’t mean you don’t do other things such as develop effective vaccines, treatment drugs etc.

There is something about an obese person eating junk sitting at a computer and complaining about people not wearing masks or getting vaccinated because of the potential impact on the healthcare system that’s ridiculous.

Obesity isn't contagious.
It’s not an infectious disease but could probably argue it’s contagious.

More importantly Does it take up a significant amount of money and healthcare resources and contribute to a strain on the healthcare system ?

Either Perrotet is rat cunning and is echoing Trump's "slow the testing down please!" or he's not very bright. I suspect the former.
I know its the latter

He is the worst kind of stoopid as he is another brain washed happy clapper that thinks COVID is all Gods will.

There are lots of things in this space.

I recall seeing a study a few years ago that showed something like +20% of all visits to the Emergency depts on weekends were for drug and alcohol abuse. One of the things that happened during lockdown was that some pressure was taken off the health system because people were not out and about drinking and drugging themselves into oblivion and also not injuring themselves and others in cars.

There is an enormous amount to be gained in reduced cost of the health system by addressing these things but I am not sure raising them in a pandemic would have made a difference.
