This is what happens when our pacific neighbours don't fall into line and instead speak out against our lack of climate change action.

$1M is peanuts
Its not even peanut shells. So hard hearted, disappointing and embarrasing. Who is advising them? In what world is it not pathetic from any angle?

How old is the Austin Powers movie now? When Dr Evil has been frozen since the 60s and asks for "one million dollars" ransom in the present day and gets laughed at?

$ 1 million :vomitI'm ashamed, it's peanuts.

This all started when that great christian, Tony Abbott starting cutting foreign aid, under their new *uck you Jack I'm alright policy. It continued under Turnbull and again under Morrison:mad:

It's no wonder those poor nations are getting on board with China.

"Australia now ranks 21 of 29 in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development when measuring aid as a proportion of gross national income"

It's like they're proud of it.
I don't remember a tweet from the government when they gave Foxtel/Rupert $10M (on top of the previous $30M) for, uh, something

Or the $400 million odd to that very small Great Barrier Reef organisation that no-one had ever heard of (mates maybe?)

It is stunning they seem proud of such a pathetic contribution, I bet the Chinese are offering a lot more.

Morrison is just getting worse and worse. In his presser he says he's been following the case of the missing NSW girl closely. Hopes for a happy ending and feels for the parents.

Her body was already found and the step dad has been brought in for questioning. These planted media questions with friendly journos backfired badly.

I don't understand why Rupert doesn't appoint a new PM from the current crop. Surely he can't think ScoMo is a) the best chance to win and b) any chance to win

In 2017, Australia made an international commitment to embed a coordinated and independent inspection system for all places of detention. This commitment, known as the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT), was hailed by then foreign minister Julie Bishop as a "significant victory for human rights in Australia".

Today, January 20, 2022, was the deadline for Australia to implement its OPCAT commitments — but four years on from ratifying the protocol, Australia has failed to do so.

That was a low, even in the context of a government that is so low they could walk under a snakes belly with their umprella up.

They had to spend money on the reef because they had neglected it and done nothing for so long. The lack of funding was starting to hurt politically nationally and internationally. They had to get some decent dough out the door so the PM could sayin public 'we have spent x $ on saving the reef', but the way this party works is to undermine and try to destroy anyone who is remotely critical of them. Of course, the reputable and best organisations, James Cook Uni Marine science, the GBRMPA know what is going on and had been very critical of government policy and inaction on the reef.

Solution? give the money to a tiny group that hadn't even asked for it and weren't equipt to handle it but who hadn't been critical, because as you say nobody had heard of them. Result? Short term political benefit for the coalition, terrible sub-optimal spending impact when the condition of the reef is critical and it needs all the help we can get.

In footy terms it was a bit like giving the captaincy of the AA side to Jack Madgen. edit, actually worse than that, he gets a game, think someone who has never played a senior game and nobody has heard of.

For me it is the most clear and obvious example of how this government do not care about the national interest and only care about scoring political points and holding power.

Yeah, that decision on top of his crippling of the NBN removed any hope that Turnbull may have been a different type of PM.
