Oh no it wasn't anything like that, I was doing one of those messages where you cleverly sneak a name in but don't overtly say it. I should have put in a wink emoji.
I initially suspected that and then thought it was just a spelling error (should have known better you aren't that sloppy). Then expressed my own inner biases by saying to myself no way is that player gay, he doesn't look the least bit gay.

6 Melbourne City players and at least 1 Victory player have tested positive to COVID. Both teams were supposed to play FFA Cup games tonight. postponed. City v Brisbane this weekend postponed.

That’s on top of about another 6 A-League players testing positive over the past couple of weeks.

This a portent to what will happen in the AFL.
The season will be farcical unless special consideration is made or changes to the current isolation policies.

so after a month of postponements, the A-League is pretty much back to normal fixturing with a bunch of catch up games in February. 60 games in 28 games across the men’s and women’s. GA tickets capped at $20 for all games in Feb (it should be like this every week, but at least someone is listening).

On another note, while CH10 TV ratings haven’t been great, the ALM is the number 1 streamed program on Paramount+. Something positive.

the 2021 FFA Cup final is tonight. Victory v CCM. The winner gets an ACL playoff spots (one-off away game in Japan). This could be our first trophy in 4 years. Can’t wait.

Totally dominated CCM in the last FFA cup final. Going to be called the Australia Cup from now on.

It was always going to be called “The Australia Cup” as its the former name of the old cup comp. Pretty easy decision tbh.

Hopefully the 2022 cup final will actually be played in 2022. I believe going forward the Australia Cup Final will be played in the last weekend of the newly created Australian football calendar (second last weekend of October).

I wasnt a fan of the new name, but they had to change it, and going back to an old name makes sense.

When is the A-league meant to finish in the new calendar?

the calendar begins on the last weekend of October, which also coincides with the beginning of the A-League season. the calendar ends in the second last weekend of October, which coincides with the Australia Cup final.

So all domestic leagues… including the ALM, ALW, NPL, Australia Cup, future second division, etc, must be played and completed inside this calendar. Its Football Australia’s way of providing more certainty around fixturing.

As for the A-League, @AngryAnt mentioned this years ALM GF will be on May 28. The finals have been expanded to 4 weeks (semi-finals will be played over 2 legs). I reckon finals in May, with a GF on the last weekend of May will be the future going forward.

Thanks for the responses, so they hope ot play it as a pre-season comp for A-league teams, and an in season comp for NPL?

Is there still talk of pushing the A-League back to winter?

its probably a bit unfair on NPL teams having to play cup matches in October and November when their season finishes in September (or August if you don’t make finals).

As for the ALM… preseason usually starts in July. It has a reputation for being the “longest preseason in the world.” So it makes sense to run the Australia Cup in the preseason.

I think the idea is to run the cup comp after the end of the NPL season, but before the start of the ALM season.

Is there still talk of pushing the A-League back to winter?

James Johnson was pushing this idea 12 months ago, but it wasn't very popular with the fans. It might go to winter one day, but not under the new TV rights deal.

Personally, I think the season should run from September to May, with a 3-4 week summer break in January. But I think all options will be on the table once the ALM expands to 16 teams and promotion/relegation is introduced.

Viktree absolutely smashed Citeh in the Derby Saturday night, actually went to this but left at half time to go watch Richmond wallop the Dogs at the G. Good decision, we won and no more goals in the second half.

Could have been 5 or 6 nil at the half, Viktree were so dominant.

yeah i managed to get to both games as well. just a shame we were unable to capitalise against Brisbane on Tuesday night. We seem to play better against the better teams and struggle to put away the lower teams who don’t necessarily come to play. But still, we are 10 games undefeated now, 4 consecutive clean sheets and haven't conceded a goal from general play in 9 games. City will win the premiership, but we are still a chance for second spot. A derby Grand Final is a real possibility

City v Western United?

It’s interesting that all 3 VIC teams are filling the top 3 spots. It basically means we won’t have to travel in the finals. City and WU are yet to beat us this year. They won’t wanna play us.

I’ll also add that the title race isn’t over. If WU win their last 4 games, they will win the league. We can also win the league if we win all 4 remaining games and WU and City drop points in 1 game. City are still favourites, but it’ll be tight.
