Lynch !!

My biggest gripe with Tom is with ground balls. I’m not sure I’ve seen anybody that is as poor below the knees than Tom. He fumbles nearly every ground ball that comes his way.

If I were to question anything (apart from nagging concerns on his finger) it's his inability to separate on the lead from his defender. This is why his marks are so often spoiled.
Sure it doesn't help when the ball is kicked poorly to him but he's also partly to blame for this. Jack R is a better lead/mark player still.
Maybe injuries are catching up? Wouldn't be the first key forward that's happened to at 30 yrs of age. It's a very taxing position on the body.
Also I was getting frustrated because often when the ball is kicked on his head, I feel he doesn't give himself a good run up at the ball & tends to play too shallow. He needs to be hitting packs with momentum but is often flat footed with little power in the contest.
Our forwards coach has got some work to do with how he plays. Maybe he needs to come further up the ground & Noah or Jack plays deep. I'm not sure.
Yeah ToO this is my major concern also. I wonder if a move away from the goal square might by him some space. More a traditional CHF role might break the shackles for him and give him some much needed confidence.
My current fave non Tiger is Aaron Naughton, love his attack on the footy, just throws himself at every contest. This is what I have always wanted from Tom. We got it often in 2019, at times in 2020 and rarely since.

I saw Tom last week take a mark or two up the ground in space, looked much better in space. Dimma has said a couple of times that he plays a role, if that role is tying down a couple of defenders then I reckon its time has passed and he should play more up the ground. Whatever his role is at the moment it isn't working.

The key difference is Naughton is 22 years old. Tom is 30 this year. There's a chance we've seen his best.
Regardless if we have or not, the trade was worth it. We've won two flags & I'd make that trade again every day of the week.

Absolutely correct on all fronts. If ten years of struggle is the price to pay for 2017-2020 I’m ok with that.

Think we've seen the best of Lynch.
But who cares he got us to the 19GF
And played his part in both GF's.

Lynch owes us nothing. No regrets.

But to nit-pick, I got annoyed when he shanked that hook from right in front of goal, not much pressure.

I just said to myself, ‘that was unco, Tom’

He’s looking unco at the moment.

He does look somewhat unco at times, but he is also playing in a side with a stack of blokes that are poor kicks of the footy.

Remembering though he is nearing 30 and is 2 m tall with some significant knee issues of recent years and hand issues.

Tom has already paid for himself.

He has been bashed and belted as a result of the RFC game plan.

In fact he paid the RFC back in 2019 when he carried us on his back for the first 12 -13 weeks of the season

He has 2 flags at the RFC and we were hoping for 1 more when he came to the club.

Yep, delivery into the forward line is critical for a player like Lynch. If he is always in the middle of 3 opponents he won't do much.

Still want to see more separation from our forwards but tonight Lynch had that tiny bit more space and showed why we got him in the first place.

I think the biggest thing for Tom, and the thing I have been most critical of is his inability to make space or get one on one. Tonight he did it and it worked.
One on one he is a nightmare match up for most defenders but it’s up to him to put the work in to create those opportunities.
More games like this from the big fella puts us right back into top 4 contention. That’s how important he is to us.

I care. Paying him for current performance not past. And last night is the bar.
Well he sacrificed instant top dollar so the team could have more success. As for the bar set last night.Won't be very often where he's up against an undersized defence.Did his job last night no doubt.

The only justification youll ever need is the 2019 Prelim.
