Welcome to Richmond - Jayden Short

Does anyone feel he's added a bit more aggro to his game? He seemed to fly the flag a couple of times last week.
Yeah. .. I loved those couple of vice like tackles he laid a couple of weeks ago on players coming out of the square ....perfectly executed... like the one over the boundary on Saturday night!
How's this for an idea.... instead of the umpires coming to training to show us how to interpret their decisions. .... we should send some players to umpire training to teach them the what are legitimate tackles!

I reckon he has really worked on his 'hardness'. I know many used to say that was the knock on him early. Rightfully I haven't heard that for a while. Great development by the club.

Started the Sydney game at HFF then playing spare. Worked into CBAs. Played pretty tight. His kicking is not a problem when he's working inside.

The Swannies look about 6th. Short would bat about #4 or so for them. He bats about there for us right now and he's six games into a midfield career.

He should be Ashleigh Prescott and he should be Nick Daffy. But he's bit more combative than them. Not as long a kick, but no worse and can find the goal.

Jayden Short is crucial to our 2022. He's going ok after a huge promotion.

989m gained & 16 i50s. Massive game from Shorty. Easily a season high.
Some say he butchered it a bit but so did every player out there in slippery conditions.
In a territory game he took plenty. Hell of a mark late too.
Got a vote from me.

He’s had a great season but didn’t like his game tonight. He butchered it especially in the last quarter. Continually panic kicked straight to Carlton players. 989 metres gained doesn’t mean much if it’s coming straight back.

He’s better than he showed tonight. Let’s hope he gets back to his best form next week. We will need it.

Yeah agreed. He did take a lot of territory but 13 turnovers is way too much for someone as good a kick as he is.

He was pretty good for 3 quarters but totally panic-hacked the ball several times in the last quarter which caused simple and bad turnovers going into our forward line.

Yeh, he was awful. Those i50's were waltzed out. It was the shorty of old. Panicky and poor. Metres gained but how many of his kicks resulted in retained possession?

But he's been a great addition to the midfield and the wet ball doesn't help him.

He had 45 minutes to decide what to do with the ball when he walked through the centre square. Probably too much time. And many blind bombs straight down their throats.

If we can teach him to kick we'll have a player.

When we gave him 5 years, I thought it was excessive for a HBF and a possible bargain for a mid. Thrilled to see it's the latter.

Since he’s been moved out of backline he seems to be rushing his kicks and just kicking it to the opposition

Holy crap you lot are crazy.

He played last night to instruction.

'Just get it long and forward' and 'take your time to hit up a target' are mutually exclusive instructions. Wet weather footy takes a specific mentality.

Gained nearly a kilometre.

Star.

He seemed indecisive, but in the end there was nothing wrong with that kick. Lynch just pulled up for no reason.

Worse game he has played in a very very long time.
It looked like he was instructed to get it and just boot it forward.
That miss running through the centre brought back nightmares when Houli did the same in the 3rd qtr in the final against Carlton in 2013.
He had 3 options and fked them all up.

Hack kicks straight to the opposition simply results in turnover n uncontested rebound footy, probably cost us a klik n a half going the other way. Dump kicks have to go to a contest to try n create a ground ball battle.
Reckon over the last three or four years Shorty's barely hitting 20% of his seagull shots on goal from the fifty. Better if he simply lets the player with the ball take his shot.

Is it true he had 13 turnovers from 25 disposals? You can get it long and forward while still looking up before you do so.

Attended 12 centre bounces for 0 centre clearances. As everyone knows I've always been his biggest supporter ;) and he was nowhere near our worst but it was far from his best game.

I knew the metres gained stat would get a run. Nothing surer. It needs to be qualified with ball retention.

He's been a great addition to the middle and his kicking to targets has been a feature. Last night was the old launch to no one. Yeh it was wet and you want to minimise the handling but he made some poor decisions when he had time to maked a better one.

To argue the kick to Lynch was good is laughable. He had an early handball option he iognored, he had a guy to his left in 25m of space on his own and then kicked between him and Lynch directly to a carlton player. IIRC they got a goal out of the ensuing play?

And that stupid, predictable sheepdog effort around the back of Lambert did my head in. Lambert had a shot from 40, he is particularly good from there. Short is about 1 from 20 with that trick. He ended up shotting off balance and under pressure from outside 50. Dumb.

I think 4 score involvements from 16 i50's tells you what sort of delivery he provided.
