Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Great example in the Brisbane v Saints game as to why we need to remove the touched ball rule.
So much fuss as to whether it was touched or not using unreliable tech.
Unless obvious enough that the field or goal umpire picks it up as touched, if it goes through the goals pay it as a goal & get on with it.
We don't scrutinise every other dodgy field umpiring decision with video technology so why bother with this?
Continuous play they say? Pffft.

The fact that there are multiple posts on this thread and another thread arguing about the nuances of the ARC and whether there was a touch or not just makes me more convinced the game has lost its way.
Did he move, did the ball graze his finger, did he raise his arms, did he show insufficient intent ?
It’s depressing

They would have been. Getting more decisions right is better than less. Is it clearing all injustice - of course not. But it's assisting goal umpires and at least directing some of the angst away from them.
I suppose that once the vision is there it has to be used to adjudicate.

But if you can get more decisions correct then what is the issue? The rule is if it is touched it is not a goal. Howard touched it, no goal.

I'd question the judgement of anyone that couldn't see that Howard touched the ball. There is a clear deflection of the ball.

The right decision was made. It's at a stop play so doesn't interfere with the play.

The more decisions they get right the better, a bit like the cricket review system. It's not perfect but getting more decisions correct is better than not IMO.

I'd prefer we don't get the absolute howler decide a game.
A free or mark that results in a a direct shot at goal is also a stop play situation so in the 30 seconds the kicker has the arc could arc up and review the decision for correctness.

Every scoring play in nfl is reviewed by the bunker. You could argue that's a game full of stoppages and time outs but we seem content to wait a minute or more to decide behind or hit the post for a ball in.

I would put a fair bit on my argument that field umpiring errors lead to more goals than goal umpire errors.

How many scores in NFL from general play? 6? 8?
It is a game full of stoppages. 45 seconds after every play. 12 time outs a game? Hardly comparable.

Not sure what all the angst is with score reviews, we get more decisions correct now with not much disruption on the game.

A number of bigger issues with the game to be dealt with.

I actually think the goal review process is one of the bigger issues that needs to be dealt with.

But, I agree, there are plenty of other big issues that require attention at the moment as well.

in fact, there are big issues everywhere you look come to think of it.

Yeh, it should be refined for sure. And there should be better explanations after a decision is made. Show us the vision, would save a lot of angst.

Get ready..

Just heard that Brad Scott is looking at bringing ‘last touch rule ‘ in and in his words’ it’s worked in SA foootball !!!

Is it possible that the Games Committee or Commission can step in a put a ‘full stop to the continual changing of rules or a mandate??

Please..

Yeah I heard Browneye mention it yesterday. This league is seriously deluding itself. Pepper Scott's been sitting at his desk twirling his fingers with nothing to do, so just come up with some idea to do something.
