Indefinite leave. I reckon he's told them to FO and will be looking at another club. Wouldn't be surprised he'll be found at another nightlife soon enough.
He won't stay.
Who ever offers 4yrs and 650-700k will get him.
He won't stay for 500 for 2 yrs no fken chance.
Clubs will come.
Stkilda Essendon Sydney
I'm wouldn't be shocked if we made a move.
If we entered with some interest 100% he would prefer to play for us

I feel for the guy but I can't cop the unfair scrutiny angle.

The difference between being a 800k per season footballer for Collingwood and a 50k suburban footballer is mostly about the increase in public interest.

Media scrutiny of all aspects of your life, public recognition and interest in you and an expectation of a higher standard of behaviour and influence are the price you pay for that money.

If you invite pubic scrutiny by exhibiting yourself on social media, or allowing those close to you to do so, then you can't really complain when it comes.

Actually stunned at how much this has blown up. Who'd want to be an AFLM player these days? Held to ridiculously unrealistic standards. FFS let them enjoy life a bit.

They choose this life. Nobody forces them to enter the draft. They can go be a tradie, or an accountant, or flip burgers at Maccas and noone will give a *smile* what they do in Bali or how they rate women. But with the territory of being a high profile athlete, or an actor, or journalist or any other high profile occupation comes being held to a higher standard

The standard keeps getting higher! They're just footballers not priests (sorry not the best example).

I don't reckon it is that complicated TOO.

Don't be videoed making sexual gestures or groping girls or making bad taste jokes.

Or, keep your private life private and don't record everything and share it with the world.

The girl in question had no issue with DeGoey's behaviour so why the outrage? All it is, is a peak into someone's private life but really it's nobody's damn business except theirs. Media outlets can choose not to play the video but paparazzi clicks & all that.

I reckon he is done at Collingwood.

Someone has come in and shored up the offer, told him they still want him regardless of this, Collingwood pulled the contract, wouldn’t commit to him. Goes away, tells the club he has mental health issues and needs time away.

It's not private one you share it with the world on video though. And it's not the standard of behaviour that Collingwood and the AFL require from a player and they are entitled to demand that standard given the money paid out.

If DeGoey refused to take the money and was still on 85,000 a season then he would have a case to say I haven't taken the money so I owe nothing and can do what I want.

It's the same situation as Hardwick's relationship. If he was coaching Bundoora for 20k a season and had an affair with one of the canteen ladies then no-one would care.

If you take 750k to coach Richmond then there's enormous public interest in everything you do and anything is fair game.

Did DeGoey share the video? if so I take it all back. Or maybe someone else videoed him?
If footballers aren't entitled to any privacy then it's not all that attractive a career that it's made out to be.
Most of them aren't Hollywood stars on 7 figures. If expectations are so high then players will walk away.

If it wasn't sleazy, this wouldn't be as big a problem.

Not sure, but he certainly knew he was being videoed and went along with it. In this day and age if you don't expect something videoed to end up on social media you are kidding yourself I think.

There's also the reality that if you are acting like that in a public space anyone is likely to be recording you at anytime. So you either don't do it, or don't do it there.

It's certainly nothing new, 20 years ago the Australian Cricket Team was always aware of the need to find a private space to let their hair down, to avoid negative interactions with the public and press and with the first mobile cameras coming out that just became more and more important. It just comes with the territory of being a high profile sports person.

I doubt it. The average wage is what $300K? Most players would choose $300K playing footy and a public profile over $80K 5 days a week and being anonymous. I would anyway.

The majority of players are fairly anonymous solid citizens in any case. Its a bit of a sliding scale, more money more scrutiny, but even then, Cotchy and Danger are on big money but they are home in bed with a cuppa.

On top of all that, with this particular case its about De Goey's form. If he had no priors this wouldn't be the big issue it is. But he has, and the statement, combined with the social media performances, suggests he has learnt nothing, zero.
