Been a tale of two seasons for Josh in 2022. Was tough seeing vision of him on the sidelines last night.
Came in like a house on fire with confidence sky high but as the grind of the AFL season has unfolded he's really struggled.
Hope he has a big preseason & finds that swagger again.

Agree.

I dont like what I have seen with Gibcus since early May. More accurately, I dont like what I seen with our lack of coaches on the bench this year.

Where's the coaches on the bench geeing him up, giving him a pat, talking to him calming him down - all the stuff Fly McRae used to do with our players on the bench these last few years. Steve Morris is in the coaches' box. Fly used to be geeing up our players, young and old. Livingstone is on the headsets.

Hate watching snippets of the bench now, its got nothing in terms of support for the players like I used to see.

Drafted as a key defender
Ends up forward and in the ruck
Coaching that only messes with young minds
Yep has been so composed in the backline and is clearly very comfortable there. Sure he has been touched up a couple of times but he's19yo in his first season. Keep playing him back. No benefit at all playing him forward.

Poor coaching. Dimma overreacted to the loss to Gold Coast.

We were too tall, slow and disfunctional in our forward line. It was pinging out in the first half.

A small forward who can run, chase and apply pressure should have been in Gibcus spot. Take your pick - MJ, George, Clarke etc.

It’s a bloody joke. Threw him to the wolves earlier in the year by putting him on Max King in last quarter against St Kilda & now this.

We should have dropped Miller, played Gibcus back and picked Ryan.
Ryan didn't even play in the 2s.

Ivan Maric sits on the bench each week. Lambert was on the bench yesterday.

I'm sorry, but starting and playing Gibcus forward was yet another horrible coaching decision.

There have been many this year. This move was too clever, by half the ground.

I watched him closely, as I was sitting on the pocket in this game.

He truly has NFI how to position himself as a forward, and of course that's the case. He hasn't played there.

He was constantly leading into traffic, or running up the wing when the ball was just coming in over his head.

Considering the Kangas were goaling every time they went inside 50, it blew my mind that Gibcus wasn't used as an intercept marker there. While Baker should also have been shifted back to give some actual ground cover, of which there was none.

We went in to this game with 9 defenders, and played three of them forward.

Craziness.

true but Ivan is pretty quiet and isnt a talker to the players like McCrae was. He's often looking at the laptop/stats /not really a massive support to the players coming on and off the field.
I was at the game and must admit I didnt see Lambert in a main player support role. So missed that. Thanks for the info Brodders.

Leysy agrees with the suggestion that George should have been picked instead of Godcus.

Playing Gibcus in the ruck was even worse.

It's pretty simple.

If you were going to play a young, inexperienced forward/ruck, then you play Ryan.

If you were going to play a tall intercept defender, you play Gibcus.

This is one of the dumbest things I've seen from a coach all year. It may actually have been Hardwick's worst ever move. Not for impact, but for lack of logic. It makes me really worried about decision making at the club.

I'm not sure I would have selected Ryan over Gibcus. But it's the easiest decision in the world if you want a forward/ruck.
