Pork Barilaro eh? Defrauding NSW tax payers. What a disgrace he is.

Yes it’s a disgrace. Just like the below. If there is corruption we need charges to be laid and consequences. What are the consequences on the above and below?

Branch stacking isn't illegal, and happens in every party.

For that matter, worth mentioning that MPs' staff, paid from taxpayer funds, all do work for the party their member is affiliated to. I was involved in student politics years ago, not for any party obviously, and those affiliated to major parties would get a fair bit of assistance from MPs and their staff, not to mention their equipment (photocopiers and the like).

It isn't right, but we would need a massive change of rules/laws, not to mention a massive change of culture, to change this.

DS have a read of the report. It’s a lot more than branch stacking. Government grants given to political aligned factions that weren’t even used, jobs given to family members who didn’t even turn up to work, fraudulently using access privileges to databases that they weren’t entitled to.

Everyone who's done the wrong thing will hopefully be punished accordingly. IBAC & ICAC important.

Honestly, this is the perfect example of media bias. 2 years ago 60 minutes did a story on Victorian Labor branch stacking. Andrews literally sacked Adem Somyurek the next day and referred it to IBAC. Yesterdays release was as a result of this and Labor said it would implement all recommendations with acknowledgements they need to do better.

2 years ago 60 minutes also did a story on Victorian Liberals branch stacking a few weeks after the Labor story. No one was sacked (Marcus Bastiaan resigned from the Libs, but always denied the branch stacking allegations). The Liberals did not refer it to IBAC and did not open themselves up to the same scrutiny Labor did. This has not been mentioned in the media for the best part of 2 years.

Whataboutism at work Ian, well done.

The libs are shocking when it comes to corruption. And their current lineup both federally and locally is a disaster. But labour are not without sin (my own whataboutism). They branch stack, they pork barrell.

As TOO pointed out IBAC/ICAC is desperatley needed.

I know this bloke doesn't hold a hose, and plenty of things are not his job, but I can't understand that a former prime minister (deliberate small p & m) could suggest that people should not have faith in the government.

Is he the worst prime minister Australia has ever had?
in fairness, most of the knowledge he has of government is with him as PM, that is why he tells people not to trust government, cos he knows how dishonest he and his government were.

Yeh, worst ever PM. And possibly the dumbest.

I'd argue it was deliberate, he actively set out to destroy trust in government because of his beliefs.

nah. i reckon he was just incompetent. he wanted power, he got that power and he tried to do anything he could to keep that power. his failings cost him that power. that was not deliberate.

Morrison, as a neo-lib, does have an ideological bias against government, indeed against any sort of collective or community. I reckon we saw that most obviously in the floods where he talked up people (individuals) helping others. It is the charity model of assistance, people should not be expected to look out for others, assistance should only come from those who want to throw a few crumbs at the less fortunate. There was an article linked here about how the half-hearted response to the floods was actually deliberate and in line with Morrison and Co's ideology.

But, it is also the case that Morrison and Co were bloody incompetent.

So, a bit of both really, but a hell of a lot of extreme individualism is just part of their ideology.

After trying to get a non existent job with the NRL, he's over in Japan to see if he can get the head job running Sumo wrestling.

"According to Nine'ss Danny Weidler, Morrison, who is a Cronulla Sharks fan, has approached "prominent rugby league figures" in a bid to become a director of the game.

ARLC chairman Peter V'landys has not personally been approached but other commissioners have, according to Weidler."
