Dreadful umpiring today & contrary to media opinion, it isn’t that hard.

The soft Brisbane goals in Q1, Neale being caught cold on the wing only for play on to be called, Prestia having his legs taken out, ridiculous goal review when Balta was pushed to the hopeless centre bouncing & inconsistent recalls. Appalling. Is that the best we can do AFL?

They were bad today but not nearly as bad as earlier this season.
I gave up watching the *smile* for over a month this year. First time ever.
There is no doubt in my mind we are umpired more harshly than nearly all others, it happened today. I also watched the dockers game the other night and they got a tight Royal screwing too.

Whilst we got the same number of frees as them, 23, the umps were still horrible. 8 F50 frees for them, 4 for us. And they got 4 goals from frees, I think we got 1.

You can't blame the umps - they're just bad at what they do.

Umps need to be full time professionals. As long as we have accountants and lawyers that can run half marathons umpiring the game on a part time basis, we'll keep getting poor umpiring performances like this.

One thing people might not appreciate is the rule changes were not by choice. They were forced upon the sport by the new problem of concussion.

"How do we change the game in response to this new thing discovered?"

It's increasingly clear the adaptations they chose haven't worked. At all. The AFL has yet to figure out a way to make this game concussion compatible.

Until they do, I wouldn't assume this mutated version of AFL will last another 100 years. A concussion compatible and watchable version of AFL has never existed.

The Lions second goal absolutely infuriated me when Daniher obviously flopped at the hint of contact. No wonder Tarrant was absolutely filthy with Joe.
Should be looked at by the MRO for staging but won't be sadly.

The umpiring was a mess for both sides yesterday.

even if he didnt flop, it looked like he backed into Tarrant, who then held his ground pushing back at Daniher.
Daniher was once a promising young KPF, but now he is a slightly better version of Hipwood. big, agile, can look great with room. but soft.

Those 2 starred in the first quarter when their forward line was open, but once the pressure came those 2 disappeared. AGAIN.

Both Daniher and Hipwood are divers. Both got very cheap frees in the 1st quarter.

I'm also not sure what you have to do to get a HTB free kick against Neale. I suppose he's in the protected brownlow medalist category but then they love to pay HTB frees against Dusty.

Can anyone tell me why Cumberland got a free for his second goal in the first quarter. His first was lucky not to be pinged as he was tackled to the ground, but I have no idea why he got the second.

Like the strange goal review/free to Balta, some real confusion when watching at the ground and you don't have the "luxury" of listening to the idiot commentators make stuff up!

I think it was down field because Zorko flattened someone.

Rioli ran 25m to kick that clutch goal and even Cumbo's goal could easily have been HTB on other occasions. For once we were on the end of a few favorable decisions. I'll hold off bagging the umps this week and hopefully our luck in this area will continue to improve. I think as pressure increases going into finals and finals themselves the free kick ledger balances up for us.

Agree. I reckon Rio ran too far.

Umps calling for a score review once review was over shown on screen as a goal free the given to Balta
Very weird stuff going on as umps are late in calling frees
Makes me think that someone is directing them in their earpiece as to when to give frees and when to let game go

That's what I thought. Reckon it started after the technical, but soft, head high Balta got pinged for. From there it became a whistle fest. I think we did get the rub for once.
