Dumbass Rory could have used it to get a read on his own putt too.

Opportunity missed.
Morikawa took a 10 on the par 5 12th today. This was after 4 putting the previous hole.

Went 7 over for 2 holes and from -8 to -1.

Ouch.

Yep. The golf course doesn't know your name. He looked like a 10 handicapper on those holes.

NOTE: this is all intended as a reply to Red's #5,730 post but Reply button failed somehow. Sorry

Agree with all your points here. Excellent post.

The points system for the lead-up events is nonsense too e.g. Zalatoris is highly promising and having a great year with plenty of high finishes but because he finally gets his first win at the first lead-up event he suddenly jumps to near the top of the leaderboard, along with Scheffler, who is rightfully there after winning 4 events including the Masters.

So Zala overleaps Cam Smith who has just won the Open, after the PC regarded as the 5th major, along with the Bermuda. Zala has to withdraw from the BMW with his back problems, Smith has already scratched with a hip issue.

But Zalatoris was still due to start 3 shots ahead of Smith of Smith -7/-4. Go figure, WTF? The simple explanation is the PGA wants to rank its lead-up events ridiculously higher. Rahm and others have called it out too. Such Amero-centric bias.

Meanwhile, Westwood follows-up on Norman's amusing tweet with a pretty acute criticism:

PS - I know Zala could not take the field for the final; doesn't change the fact he would have started well ahead of Smith even though no comparison in wins or prestige/calibre of events. Gap would have been even higher if Zala was able to finish BMW in a decent place.

This Tour Championship is just so dumb. There’s basically only 5 or 6 golfers from the starting 30 that can win it. Boring.

Gee, even at just the half way mark it looks like it’s down to just 2 or 3.

Flawed concept.

Agreed Red, If it wasn't for the money involved why would most even bother turning up?

Strangest concept in golf I can think of. Even worse than playing par on Saturday's.

Well, Max Stoner Homa brought it up yesterday Don. He shot a 62 but it barely made a ripple where any chance of winning was concerned and he and others questioned the format, again.

Don’t start me on Par.

Par would have to be golf’s most unpopular format.

I know no-one who likes it.

From what I can gather it seems participant numbers are always down when it is the known event.

Are clubs under some kind of obligation to play it every month or something? Otherwise I don’t understand why it is even played.

I said don’t start me on Par !

Inequitable competition. I don’t know of any member set that likes it. Reckon maybe only 10% of members like it. Club I was at years ago hated it so much that the board agreed a motion to not play it any more than 4 times per year on a Saturday. That was still 4 times too many for me.

absurd concept for the penultimate pga event on a boringly soft dark green course
i know its rained heaps but epitome of pga crap.

however the combination of :

biggest pga purse of the year, insane starting leads for some, far bigger easy liv money & 84 degrees F....
has made for some spectacular dummy spits.

- in particular :
billy Horschoe taking it out repeatadly on his bag &
johny rhambo a magnificent spinning starfish 5 iron kick encored with a mike spike follow up.

hopefully more to come.
(not a fan at all tho in club golf)

Pleased to say I backed Rory last night at 12-1.

Only 5 back. And If it wasn’t for a triple bogey and bogey start in the first round then he’d have been just 1 stroke behind them when they finished play in the 3rd round. Had to play 17 and 18 in the 3rd round which looked birdie-able and would put some pressure on before starting the final round.

X and Snuffler looked like they were getting in each others way so all up, it looked appealing.

$13 mill u.s. at stake (1st v 3rd) & we don't see or discuss...

.rory's free drop from hospital tent

in particular-
entitlement....
would tent interfere with backswing of club of choice wedge or driver? who would know? never saw/discussed...frontal view of rehearsed shot would've been nice

two club no closer drop & place...
2 drops rolled outside fair enuf..aerial view wouldve been nice
but first 2 places settled deep, extremely quick picups & place... i guess because they rolled off their axis? ..or outside area?
3rd placement perfect lie so quick again without any close up/discussion

such a 3rd shot advantage...
just weird

Well done, I thought about it. I've backed him a few times after 54 holes to shoot the lights out, a couple of times at the Masters:(

Yes but will he get a retrospective 2-shot penalty tomorrow because his ball landed on a line or some other nonsense ruling dredged up - as used on Cam Smith couple of tournaments back?

Don't think so. Rory a PGA spokesman and players' leader ... [and Scottie is a PGA role model too, and American of course, hence the generous rulings he got early in final round at the Masters (hole 2 or 3 when totally oob) playing against Cam again].

Must say, after watching a bit of LIV, despite its annoyances, the Tour is still by far and away the better product. For now.

Monahan albeit a late reaction, has probably pulled the right levers with his latest changes as well.

Just watched the highlights. Jeez Rory was lucky. Holes a 30ft putt on 15, hits a bad approach followed by a poor chip on 16 but hits the flag and stops 8ft from
Hole. Sinks the putt. On 18 he hits it a mile left with his second but hits grandstand and gets free drop. And then gets to place (as Leon pointed out) on a great lie. Sheffler *smile* the bed on the last day to give him the opportunity.

Smith, Leish, Niemann, Varner all off to LIV.

Apparently a bunch of the best South Koreans about to leave as well.
