Think this season has really illustrated the point I was trying to make about premierships not being a true measure of the quality of a coach.

Simon Goodwin won a premiership last year, beating Scott's team along the way but he isn't good enough to carry Scott's clipboard into the ground as a coach.

Melbourne has essentially just rolled out the same game again this year and waited for everyone else to catch up to them. No innovation, no improvement, no development.
Actually, thinking about this it makes sense. Any coach can win 1 premiership, especially when they have a very strong list, but only great coaches have the innovation, improvement and development to win again and again.

Let's hope this stays true

Guesses about hypotheticals to support your argument? Are you fair dinkum?

On the non-hypothetical part, the real part, where Dimma actually successfully dealing with a huge structural challenge early in a GF, there is a lot to actually doing what you talk down as 'just manipulating personnel into existing roles'.

Why do you feel the need to defend someone who is not being questioned? The talking down is your imagination.

That might be a difficult statement for some posters to swallow in a couple of weeks. ;)

Nah, lucking 1 flag when gifted a very strong list, then fluking another one on your 15th attempt in a year of limited competition doesnt show those things.
A coach has to be able get their winning team to contend and win again.

Scott will never get credit from the more even minded posters on here. :D

I think we need to be careful just measuring it in premierships ,

You can be beaten just because the other team is better , and a great coach can only do so much ,

I think great coaches get more out of their list than what people expect and that might not always equate to premierships ,

And im probably one eyed when I say Dimma achieved that ,

the way Richmond kept getting snubbed for All Australian honors says enough about that .

I have so far changed my vote three times in this thread:
1st choice Fremantle after our elimination.
When they were eliminated I had to change to
2nd Brisbane until last night. Now it's
3 Sydney.
Fickleness is allowed here.
