Gibcus & Sonsie is a good nucleus to work with, I also think Judson looks AFL quality, Matthew Clarke already gets a pass mark for this draft but the question of key position talent is still one which cannot be neglected however, Jack has one year left, Lynch will be the wrong side of 30 next year, Grimes also approaching retirement age. All of Jackson's key position talent about to disappear from view leaving the cupboard relatively bare. Now assuming that talls take 4 years & we're about to wipe out 2 drafts, I'm feeling a bit nervous about what the future may hold, it's one of the reasons I'm adamant about keeping our pick 12 this year (at a bare minimum). If we're serious about the future then it's at least 1 key position talent, ideally 2. That won't happen of course, we're committed to Taranto & Hopper, unless we have a rabbit up the sleeve it will be left up to Hartley to address, he definitely has his work cut out.
bullus, with Cadman and Jefferson highly likely to be gone, which key position player would you select with our pick 12?

That's a big bill in my eyes, way too big. When you start giving away top 20 picks like that you minimise your chances of getting key forwards. This could be career defining for Clarke, a poor year will amplify the pain, 2023 the year of the high roller.
Just a curious one, what do you reckon we should be paying for these guys?

Keeler should be available, I'm confident this pick will maintain value, particularly given he's bottom aged, another couple of centimetres and you are also getting value as a ruckman. This is a good way to start the rebuild process, getting a dual position player with upside.

Yes, he should be, you rate him that highly do you? Twomey and Doerre have him in the 20's. What do you think about Busslinger?

I like Busslinger but he's top 10 I think, I'm expecting he & Hewett to head west, the Eagles will probably dilute their picks in all likelihood.

If Keeler is in the twenties I'd imagine the top end is stuffed with mids, probably won't play out that way, he's the third best tall forward.

Not sure why you are referring to Clarke. He ain’t the one doing the trades.

It's up to Clarke to put value on the draft picks, if he feels strongly about it he needs to put forward his case. I personally think it's a strong top 20, therefore talk of trading 3 top 20 picks well overs.

Plenty of duds in top 20 draft picks, Tarranto and Hopper we know what we are getting. Draft picks are potential and no more. Plus both Tarranto and Hopper are relatively young, plenty of years left on both of them.

The reason clubs get asked to stump up a few draft picks for a good player with years left is that draft picks are no guarantee of good players. Geez, give up the opportunity to get Conca or RCD for Tarranto or Hopper, where do I sign on?

I've moved Lemmey up a couple of spots, he can take the hits, need to find out the reasons for his form slump. Pick 30 ok range I think.

Keeler can take hangers, he's good at ground level, his kicking good but can look a bit lazy at times. I think he will polarise but I'm all aboard on this one. Steal at pick 19, fair weight at pick 12.

Spot on. We aren't good at drafting using 1st rounders period, so why not give them up and concentrate on what we are really good at, selecting Kids hungry to play using the preseason or Rookie Draft.

Hopper with his injury history is worth pick 19 & Soldo. Taranto worth either pick 12 or next year's first, one or the other.
Reckon that sounds fairly close to the mark, but who knows for certain.
Problem is that everyone likes to get sucked in by the hype n meedjia speculation, then start arguing over the potential possibilities.
Until the deal actually gets announced all we have is a carousel of click bait n snippets of biased info.

Gee Whizz are pissed off n will be making outrageous demands.
Gee Whizz need to dump millions of salary, they'll be cheap.
Both players are stars.
They're only decent players in a side that finished near the arse end of the ladder.
Both players are injury prone.
Players have been played in the wrong roles by the coach, or too many similar type players in the team.
Richmond need to give up their three early picks this year plus their first next year n probably even trade out a player as well just to get close to a satisfactory deal.

Gotta love the meat market n silly season ramping up weeks before the footy season is even finished.

I’d really prefer to take one of Taranto or Hopper and keep Graham (if getting both influences his departure either directly or indirectly) and one of our first round picks for a KPF prospect. Seems like a much better balanced approach - and more in keeping with the approach to list building that we have pursued so far. And look where that got us.

The Suns are looking at giving pick 7 to anyone that takes on Jack Bowes. That's a good opportunity for a club with cap space. It also makes you wonder just how much money he is on.

If I'm the Saints I'd be doing it. Trade Hill to North for a future 3rd. use that salary cap space to take Bowes and Pick 7, take an extra top 10 pick they weren't expecting to the draft. They need quality on that list.

Public Holiday, and we have a footy game to watch! VC is my tip. Not much to base it on, I've seen both sides play once, for me VC had a better spread of talent, particularly their running players HB and mids, worked harder and played better as a team.

Those comparisons aren't particularly helpful, 2 & 7 would be Cadman & Jefferson, I would be jumping on that combo without hesitation, the forward line dilemma solved in the best way possible. Could then turn to next year & grab the best available whatever that position may be. Taranto & Hopper are damaged goods to some degree, one continues to wear shoulder strapping & has probably lost a bit of overhead marking ability since his surgery, the other has had multiple knee surgeries, both will be 25 next year so already 2-3 years into their optimal window. In two years both players will be worth a fraction of their current asking price, the talls I just mentioned could be worth double, these values are etched on shifting sands so locking up key forwards a much more secure approach.
