Whatchu talkin about Jack?

I rather this year first not next years.
I'm still not sure, part of me is wanting to get a forward in whilst Jack is still playing but part of me is saying we should hold fire and see how next year's crop unfolds. Tough one but I suppose if you give that choice to GWS you take the guesswork out to some degree. If we can somehow get Taranto & Hopper plus Jefferson/Keeler we have done well, that would be my aim at this stage. Throw in Knobel & Lemmey & I'm starting to feel a bit more bullish about the future.

1. Cadman (4-8)
2. Jefferson (8-15)
3. Keeler (12-20)
4. Knobel (30-60)
5. Lemmey (30-60)
6. Foster (40-rookie)
7. Verral (40-rookie)
8. Bradtke (60-rookie)

I've bumped Lemmey because I've decided to heavily weight 2021, I still don't know the reasons for his poor state carnival but Buddy & Darling also suffered from second year blues so it does happen with key forwards. I've spent some time analysing his physicality & he's a bit tougher than his state form would suggest, this isn't a McBean situation I'm pleased to say, pack marking not a feature but he's not afraid to stand his ground and will take the knocks with players chopping off his leads. Not quite as robust as van Rooyen but there is something to work with. His set shot kicking is lovely to watch when on song (see 2021), field kicking not elite but not terrible. He averaged 3 intercepts a game during his stints in defence, that's solid enough, Himmelberg the player I'm visualising (again).............

Another point re possibly trading out of the first round of 2 drafts for Hopper and Taranto. We had 5 picks in the top 30 last year. I reckon the club did that knowing it was likely a few would shake loose from GWS.

We recruit JVR instead of Brown at pick 17 and we’re probably not having the same conversations about draft picks and Hopper/Taranto.
Bewildering when you think about it

Yep, so instead we let JVR go to the Dees and fix their KPF failure problems with the deficient Brown and Weideman, in all likelihood. The prospect of a slower JR8, if his kicking declines any more, reckon he is struggling from distance more and more, plus opponents will run off more too, is not great.

Brown is not looking like a certainty to make it to me, and Moggies may always be a temptation too.

Great first q. Country well on top early but couldn't capitalise. Humphrey B Bear should have 2 in the first. gruzewski 2 goals for metro and an absolute screamer in the goal square.

Hollands best on so far, has his own footy. Noah Long good also. Harley Reid would be a #1 if contender he were eligible, jut a gun. Nick Watson would be up the pointy end too, a real livewire.

Much-vaunted Metro mids Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Tsatas and Hotton struggling to get near it. Jhye Clark laid down the law early. Husthwaite and Szybkowski involved.

Humphrey reminds of Josh Begley from a few years back. Big boy.

Gruzewski is an interesting prospect. 193cm swingman, great hands, nice kick.

Cadman highly promising. Knobel shows nice athleticism and neat skills.

Not a need for us but Paul Pascu is a good size and runner for HBF and a rifle of a left foot.

Sheezel a class above most. Can't see him not being a player.

Konstanty roves at pace with great handling. Like.

If we don't take a forward this year that would have seemed the logical choice, but you could also say that taking Johnson would entail one less established mid - both options viable in the greater scheme of things. A flanker? Not so much, that to me will always be a bewildering pick.

Humphrey and Cadman are all class. Whoever gets Cadman will have a generational key forward.

Husthwaite is a great size, terrific hands, composure, decision-making and a neat left foot. Athletic testing will be interesting.

Country killing them through the middle, just more class and desire. Dominated inside 50s for not much, combo of Metro defence playing well, tight, and a lot of average entries.

VC 5.7 37

I'll take Humphrey B Bear and Cadman thank you. Glad I'm not a recruiter, throw a blanket over a lot of mids and KP defenders who look AFLey.

All things considered, Johnston hasn’t shown enough this year to determine whether he’s a legitimate potential A grade midfielder. As opposed to Sonsie for example who has performed well at senior level. So we’d still probably be wondering at this stage whether we need both Hopper and Taranto versus feeling we’ve bedded another one down.
JVR has shown with a year under his belt that he’s got the makings of a very good key position player. Because talls take so much time to develop, you’re looking for signs more than consistent output.
The really good midfielders tend to perform early.
