Dan Andrew’s makes Guy look like mother Teresa.

Andrew’s has more investigations against him than Rhys-Jones has had tribunal appearances.

Anyway they are all useless and full of *smile*. Australian politics right now is at its lowest. None of them are a leaders *smile*.
If Andrews were a crook we would well and truly know by now. He's by no means perfect but he's hugely popular not just because the Libs are useless but because he actually gets practical stuff done, like the unsexy but highly impactful railway crossing removals. He does what he says he'll do, generally. Even if you don't agree with everything he does, it's a refreshing change.

I guess worrying about our health system isn’t as important as dog parks or sponsoring a netball team. Maybe that’s too sexy? I guess you are ok with the way he spends our taxes.

Of the 3 completed IBAC investigations into Andrew's during his tenure, none of them have found adverse findings against him. It's good that we have an authority who can look into these claims but there's been no corruption found in Andrew's government so far.

He certainly seems like a polarising politician. Unfortunately that means there's going to be a lot of butt hurt Victorians when he's voted back in again for a 3rd term.

Bloody spongy soft *smile* this premier Dan bloke.
Old Dorrie of a missus only cracked five ribs going arse up n hitting the edge of a retaining wall last year. Didn't even go to hospital until she got a bit creaky a couple of days later n the local Doc cracked the *smile* at her.
Old mate Dan needs to harden the *smile* up.
TM this is a garbage post.
I can tell you for a fact he was very badly injured. He is bloody lucky he is not in a wheelchair

And you are very naive to think Andrew’s tentacles don’t reach out to the right people in order to keep him at arms length of the law. They don’t call him Teflon Dan for nothing.
SA if you think that the Libs know how to “fix health” you are kidding yourself.
I’ve worked in the system under both. The only thing that distinguished the Libs from the ALP is that there was even less funding in the system

Guy the bloke who screwed up rezoning Philip Island for his mates, then didn't, then was threatened with legal action, so he did. Guy the Lobster with a Mobster?

All we know about Andrews is that he has been called to testify at the IBAC. We don't know if he was under investigation or whether he was just giving evidence. Pretty sure there would have been a lot more noise about Andrews if there were 4 fairdunkum investigations into him.

Sort of surprised anyone is giving the current Age and HUN stories any sort of credibility at all. The vagueness, the lack of facts, the secret sources, the rehash of old stories, right when we are coming to an election that the Libs are looking to lose more seats.

If you can't see what's happening here then you probably think umpires don't have any bias against Richmond too.

That's the issue, the Libs are hopeless and without strong competition, the incumbent know they don't have to fix the roads, improve the health system. All they have to do is throw a few bones (pardon the pun) with dog parks and logos on netball skirts and they'll get back in. This situation isn't good for any Victorian. By the way, the Libs being hopeless doesn't make Dan good. If I ran my household finances the way Dan runs the state's finances, I would have lost my house, my family and be living on the streets.

Never said I did. As I have said previously the political state in our country is at its worst. However the Labor government has been in charge of our health system for over a decade and it’s now arguably at its worst. Something has got to change.

If you can find a post where I have said Dan is good please let me know. I actually reiterated that I am no fan in a post earlier today.
The problems with our health system are deep seated and have been heavily exposed by COVID, as they have been all over the world.
In Victoria they have their genesis in the Kennett government in the mid 90s and no government since has had the foresight or courage to fix them.
To truly “fix health” in Australia requires a bi-partisan national approach that has to include all stakeholders not just governments. That has to include educational institutions, the medical colleges and doctor lobby groups and the private system and insurers.
No government wants to tackle it because it it is too politically dangerous.

OMG we are now getting the household budget is he same as a government budget argument, I think some are getting desperate.

Apart from anything else, if you are going to borrow to build infrastructure then doing it while interest rates are low is a good time, now inflation will likely erode the debt in real terms. Borrowing is fine for infrastructure as is being done now, its when you borrow for consumption that there is a problem. It is easy to day debt is bad but it is also wrong, debt needs to be judged on its merits.

Not to mention that if it wasn't for going many years of income into debt, no-one except the very rich would be able to own their own home.

I’ve posted about the health system before as I have a long experience in it and won’t repeat it all. When you look at it logically it is not a surprise where we are at.
Public health in every state in Australia has been funded to a level of survival for years, with public hospitals and other areas like ambulance scrambling for funding and barely getting by. Labor , Liberal makes little difference, except in my experience there is a bit more money around with labor.
There would always be planned growth of 2-3% a year in the system plus inflation. The commonwealth actually pegs its contribution growth at 6.5% max in $ terms.
Along comes COVID and suddenly we have massive increase in demand, plus we have a 5-6% reduction in workforce due to isolation and sickness as well as no immigration. Nursing in particular relies heavily on immigration.
That demand is still going, not so much for COVID although it is still there, but the catch up in surgery and other care. Hospitals can’t get staff, sick leave is still very high.
In my view it will take 2-3 years before we get back to pre COVID levels of efficiency in the system. The workforce may take longer because we need to train more doctors and nurses and that takes a long time. On top of that people are leaving the system because they are burned out and exhausted.
Governments and bureaucracies could have done better but I am very strongly of the view that we could have had JC himself as premier and we wouldn’t be in a much different place than we are now.
The problems are systemic and relate to a lack of resilience and flexibility in the system. That costs money to fix and needs planning and taxpayers don’t like paying for capacity that isn’t fully used.
That being said the media is blowing up the state of the health system to some degree. By all international measures our health system has held up as well as most and much better than many. The NHS as an example is in a world of pain compared to where we are.

Sorry Sin, wasn't referring to you about my Dan is good comment.

I can't disagree with what you say about the health system. It's broken with no solution in sight. Frustration all round.

Andrews supporters are Aussie MAGA lite. And he knows it, so smug.

Supporters are Unhinged and make it impossible to blame him for anything.

And the Libs can’t lay a finger on him. Useless.

He’ll get back in with a reduced majority.

Yeah, the COVID lockdowns will probably make him lose some seats. A lot of angry voters commenting at the time.

I'm betting both major parties end up with reduced seats. 12 years is normally more than enough for a Premier but the Libs have absolutely nothing. Tim Smith Shadow Attorney General FFS. No matter how bad you think it is under the ALP, it would be worse under the current Libs.

Independents and minor parties will most likely gain ground.

Putting Andrews aside for a moment, is there anyone here defending what the Age and HUN have done in the last week? I hope everyone can see how much worse off we are as a country/state when our media is so *smile* biased and is bringing over to Australia stuff Fox News have perfected in the US. We are in serious trouble as a country if we don't rein this current media in.

Bring in Truth in Media Laws like Canada has done. About the only thing News Corp dares to show in Canada is the Weather Channel

Not sure if there will be reduced seats from the majors, I know where I live in a safe Liberal seat (which elected a Teal federally) there is a lot less visibility for the local independent candidate. Still, the Libs knocked on our door the other day (a first for us, living in a safe seat means they don't tend to bother) so they are clearly worried.

Single member electorates favour the major parties, at least preferential voting gives some chance for others to compete.

I wonder if Dan might hand over to a successor in the next few years if he wins this election. I would think he is becoming less popular over time and it might be time for a fresh face. Would be good to have a government not so dominated by the premier too.
