Got email yesterday, logged in, set up, to find eldest daughter details not there, (wife and other daughter there no problems). Her stuff is always late.
Rang today to sort, explanation, that as daughter is concession, it's processed differently, explained other daughter is also concession, but hers was processed, response, they must have joined at different time, again, said no, consecutive member numbers, joined on same day. Oh well, it will get sorted.

got the email @ 1.30 yesterday.

Ive kept my 3121 & wife & daughter are Interstate 3121, grandson also on my account

We got $270 credit, we got a scarf & years of membership patch & the barcoded M'ship Card each

They chucked in Bumper Sticker & Lanyard

We had enough credit left to purchase $127 worth of rewards items, backpack, socks, pencil case, boot bag, travel mug & drink bottle

Seems like a great system to me

The better we get off and on the field, the less you get in a membership pack.

I remember when we were crap and you got enough half a Christmas stocking's worth of paraphernalia with a membership.

I now realise they were trying to keep us paying in spite of a dismal on field product!
So true. Think it’s my 20th year as a member this year, and have noticed the decline. Doesn’t bother me, as I’d rather be successful. But maybe the members who stuck through the hard times should get a little more.

I thought my card came in the mail a few weeks ago but obviously it didn’t, charging for a card seems a bit overboard. I have kept every membership card I have ever received.

Will be interested to see if all the other clubs are doing this as well.

Outside of the barcoded card I actually didn't use most of my cash. Each to their own but last thing I wanted was more plastic landfill.
Is it landfill though if you don’t throw it away?
I’m not a sentimental person at all but I have kept every single membership card I have received. I’m sure there would be a lot of people who are the same.

It’s NOT really a case of charging for the card!

You are given a $50 credit and can use that to make your own selections from a range of options. If you wanted a card - it was something like $15 from memory - you could choose that and still have enough credit to also choose a hat or scarf and/or other bits and pieces.

I’ve hung my membership cards off the framed premiership posters.

It is when you pass away. That’s the problem with plastic. Maybe 400-500 years to decompose. With that said I have all of my mine too. TOO is spot on the mark if we think about our future impact.

Even that complimentary scarf has become a dodgey racket. The Tigers shop would not redeem one for your membership over the counter. They were happy to sell you anything you otherwise wanted. To get the free scarf you had to buy it online for a delivery of $10.

Strangely, that last home game they were giving scarfes away for free outside the ground.

I've always been able to pick up the scarf at a game, admittedly not in the shop but a tent outside. Looks like they are going to post them to us despite the fact I can just drop in and pick it up when next at a game.

I thought the $370 a year I pay for membership, would cover the production of the plastic card. Makes more sense than giving me a $50 credit, which I then have to use to have card sent to me, and the balance goes on 'complementary' scarf or cap.

I do agree. And I think the choice of scarf or cap should also be included in the membership price like it used to be.

Like I said I got the membership card. I've kept those. The rest is plastic junk that lasts 12 months for us but forever in the ground.

I got all my stuff over the counter at the shop the last few years??

Got the email and went through the process today. Really not sure how there can be any complaints (noting everyone probably gets a different amount of credit to start). Think on mine there was enough to get a barcoded card and pick of cap or scarf with some left over (aka equivalent to years past). But because my young kid's is on same account, actually had heaps of credit to get backpack, lunchbox, pencil case etc - none of which would have been previously available. Definitely better all around, and its included, so while you do 'pay' for it, you'd be paying for it regardless via membership fee, so don't think it should be viewed as a charge - more like house money.

And the personalisation printing on some items is also a good touch.

If anything, I hope the club doesn't have to outlay too much (I assume and expect its not the highest quality, which is suitable). "free" backpack - nice

What’s the rest though? From what I have read it’s about hats and scarves. They aren’t made of plastic.

I know the membership card is no different to other plastics and will take hundreds of years to break down and a more environmentally friendly card should probably be introduced. But we still have licenses made of plastic. Bank cards made of plastic. Millions of other things made of plastic.

Being an overseas member, I get a limited 'rewards cash'. Buy a cap or scarf, a membership card and the year badge and there is very little for any so-called reward unless I stump up more cash and pay postage. This scheme may well work for family membership but for the single one with no ground entry it doesn't seem to be much good

So you're getting no less than prior years then?

If viewed as providing choice (pick a backpack instead of a cap, for example) then surely it's an improvement. I don't think the idea is to get extra free stuff, beyond the traditional scope of cap/scarf choice. Rather you can get something different / further choices if the standard option doesn't appeal (as you can simply not pick cap/scarf).

I can't see any negative to this system when compared to prior years, and am surprised by people not liking it. Seems more a problem of expectation management by the club rather than the system itself?

It is? Just pick that instead of the other options? The credit is "free" after all, hence included in membership price

What seems weird to me is there doesn't seem to be any differential in membership level vs credit.

I pay for a heap of memberships each year, including a few kids of mates who I joined up to one gamers just to *smile* off their old man, and they all seem to have a $50 credit.
