TBR are you sure that this isn't a dirty attempt by Slobbo to provoke Dusty into doing more press.

Dusty is treating the incident with the contempt is deserves (it was seven years ago and no complaints were lodged)

He is paid a fortune to play footy because the media fund it. You'd have a case if he only took 300k a season but if you take their money you owe them more.
Not Really

The media fund his football not his mouth , He has no obligation to talk to the press or foxtel or who ever
He is paid to play football and its his choice. TV pays for games

All well and good but at the end of the day, the Tiger fans are being snubbed by the one they love most.

That can't be good for the RFC.

What is that maxim about the club and the individual?

There's no doubt the media don't like him ignoring them because they naturally want to talk to the biggest star in the game. I don't think it is about provoking, more complaining.

That's not true because there are contractual obligations for players and clubs to be available for media outside of games.

The irony about all the talk about media agendas against Dustin is I believe if they actually pushed the issue he would be forced to be available a handful of times each year or the club would be financially penalised. And that's outside of after match where they can pick anyone they like, which they also let slide once he made it clear he didn't want to last season.

Your first sentence is fair enough. If all players have a clause in their contract to be available then they should be. Without exception for mine.

(A) what if? He does not have that clause in his contract? He has been snubbing the media for years. I would have though the Club would have pushed him front and centre long before now to honour that. Like everyone else. Just a thought bubble here. What if as part of his last contract he also got the Club to release him from that responsibility??
(B) I doubt the Club would have wanted him to give it any oxygen.

Robbo needs to concentrate on what he does best. Undermine the coach at Essendon (am so looking forward to him knifing Brad Scott when the time is right) and work on getting Hirdy back as coach.

Yes, that's the case, it's a standard clause of the player's agreement with the AFL. They are required to do something like 20 appearances for the club and AFL across the season, which includes just about anything you can think of, from school clinics, product launches media appearances and even awards ceremonies.

Then there's some other agreement between clubs and the AFL which covers things like having a player available at a press conference during the week, the coach press conference each week and after the game, access to someone pre and post game and a few other bits and pieces.

He definitely isn't exempt because he has used a number of strategies over the years, remember that stupid 'sports competition' thing they ran over multiple parts a few years ago? Each one was an appearance. He also used to beeline the on-ground reporters after games for a nice easy three questions where he could say he was proud of the boys three different ways.

Not too sure exactly how the media obligations work but i would presume it would be more along the lines of being interviewed after or before games about the game and or club media obligations. Not about doing interviews with stations or print media regarding personal events. im sure privacy would be paramount with any media commitments

Luke any job there are obligations.
Most jobs have the boring paperwork stuff.

And with any job that brings success, such as sales or surgeons or crypto bros, its the absolute elite who can let the boring stuff slide with impunity.

The club or AFL forcing Dusty to do media is like asking a plastic surgeon to park legally or me to hand in monthly expenses on time.

It's the performance on the field that counts.

Absolutely spot on. I've seen Dusty on the t.v. doing a media spot after games plenty of times. Personal and private life is another matter entirely and Dusty well within his rights to ignore the parasites when they come scavenging.

Exactly. Just because the media helps pay his wage, he isn't a prostitute so they don't get to *smile* him.

They pay his way and he provides the entertainment on field. Probably better than any other player. He doesn’t have to provide commentary as well. Leave him alone Robbo you *smile* wit.

Loved it. Would love to see the interview with Dusty as Ray and Blobbo as the cops. :ROFLMAO:

Blobbo: Thanks for finally agreeing to an interview Dustin. How are you?
Dusty: I don’t answer questions.
B: Oh? Umm. Ok. Umm. How do you feel you’ll go this year?
Dusty: I don’t answer questions.
B: will you be staying at the Tigers after the season ends?
Dusty: I don’t answer questions.
B: ( getting exasperated and flustered). But you agreed to be interviewed
Dusty: I don’t answer questions.
B: ( theatrically throwing blank sheets of paper up in the air). But think of the fans!!!!!!!
Dusty: I don’t answer questions.
B: ( conceding defeat) ok. Well, thanks Dusty
Dusty: Anytime mate :)
