Never again must we come into a season so poorly prepared. No run compared to most other teams & too many soft tissue injuries. Not good enough.
Feels worse when members don't even know this. Huge kudos to Julius.

Spot on last 3 seasons our fitness and medical side has been rubbish sugar coat how much you like club took the easy way and I don’t want to hear soft cap or covid etc bs all clubs on the same page now.
Put it into context though. We have the highest paid coach (rightly so) soaking up a fair bit of that. It means we have a lot less to go around to fitness and assistants.

Why did we have a sh!t pre season? We got knocked out of the finals early so that is not an excuse. Is it a preparation thing or just bad luck with the injuries?

It sounds like Luke made some significant changes from the methods Perter Burge used. It has resulted in an increase in soft tissue injuries and the opposition consistently out running us.

It is up to those in charge to decide if the new system will have long term benefits or if it needs to be changed. Either way Luke would want a better results next year. It has ruined this season.

Do we know for sure that the direction was changed or did we fail to understand what Burge was doing. When Burge was around and we were running out games with ease did he do all his black magic behind closed doors. Did he not have assistants who watched and learnt at his feet. Did they all go drinking saying Burgo’s got this. No one took any notes? Something doesn’t gel. In any industry it is incumbent on those in charge to ensure that IP is understood and passed on to the next generation to maintain continuity and manage the risk of someone walking. We appear to have regressed. Bad luck with ageing list, significant shift in a different direction due to a new idea or poor execution of what worked previously?

There is most certainly an issue of carrying a lot of older guys who will cover less ground and lose some zip
In the legs. But as was referred to in an earlier post, Caesar’s preseason reports made for ordinary reading. I can’t remember once where the report was positive. So it seems like we had a poor preseason which if true almost guarantees a poor season.

That’s what I’d like to know. But when I see clubs like Collingwood running above the ground compared to us, that’s unacceptable

Often a case of young n desperately hungry compared to older n well fed. At the elite level it's sometimes as little as one or two % that can make a massive difference.

The pies are seriously fit. They cover the ground better than any other team.

I don’t buy the ageing list as an excuse when it comes to our running patterns. Endurance is better at 30 than 20 for most people. It’s the way we train and how much we are carrying around in our frame that has made us more unfit.

Does anyone have confidence that Maurice Rioli for example can get fit enough to play at the level required with this current setup?

I see it as a real balancing act. It's a bloody long season now 23 games + finals. The goal has to be having a fit squad who are peaking coming into September. Of course you have to get there first.

The tracker on the website was used as evidence earlier- we covered 279.3k on Monday- the PIes covered 280. We covered 38.1 at high speed. The pies 38. The pies average speed in attack was 7.6, in defence it was 8. in attack our was 7.7, in defence it was 7.4. They made 282 sprints, 24 repeat sprints. we made 260 sprints and 31 repeat sprints.

Im not sure there is a lot in that. Winning teams always look like they are running over the ground, and winning teams always look like they have more energy. And costly turnovers burn more energy than anything else.

AFL app. Go to the Tracker function on the game page.
Total km’s 283 - 279
High Speed km’s 43-38
It’s a tad simplistic but we aren’t fit and we are slow
Interesting to find this stats.. Adelaide game our numbers were worse. Higher differential to Adelaide
