So, about the brother. Where’s he at? How old? How tall? Come on Blair/Clarke, get going!

Did you hear the very articulate GFs comment who had met mum for the first time?

'Shes lovely, even plastered'

So candid and seemingly refreshingly working class?

Sampa spoke well and wish passion too

With The improvement trajectory this kids on,

Hes gonna be AA ruckman next year
His GF spoke so well and seeing her (and Samson's mum's) evident pride in him was really touching.

Refreshingly working class when so many AFL players hail from private schools - not to mention the AFL executives!

Loved seeing Samson's passion!

That was when he pulled the Dustin Martin kick. (A kick the real Dustin Martin can no longer execute.)

Winning the ball in the square Samson Ryan sent a 60m kick 5m off the ground to the worst aerialist in the AFL Judson Clarke who was standing between two talls. Knocked his eyes out. Goal, of course.

Plan for the ball. Vision. There is no ruck like him. But will he fight? Will he, after 40 minutes of failure, lift? Not just lift, but excel.
That kick! You're right, it was Dustyesque. This lad's Dustyesquey. But he's no Idiot, and he won't murder any old ladies from behind with an axe. He will unseam prime young beefcakes face to face, from the nave to the chaps. A real-life literary hero. Hercules. Gilgamesh. Samson Goddamn Ryan.

He kicked a Dusty goal against GC too.

I don't buy the rapid improvement narrative here. Samson has been improving incrementally since drafted. He's now starting to show glimpses at AFL level what he was doing regularly at VFL last year.

He needs nothing more than size and game time. He's nowhere near the 206 cm ceiling.

There's still something we haven't seen much of at AFL that was a feature at VFL and that's his ground work. He can collect a ground ball and snap a goal as well as any 190 cm player.

Just wait till he's strong, match hardened and believes.

Does he qualify for Rising Star nomination? Or is he too old?

His improvement week by week has been a highlight of the season for me (after beating Geesook last night now)

He’s coming along really quickly. Was great in the ruck tonight.
This is what opportunities provide. He has a run at a number of games because we have no other options. He was going to sink or swim and I think he is doing more than flapping around looking for his floaties.
He will be ok for us.

Yeah just another lazy 41% of hit outs to advantage. What this guy can do with the ball in the ruck is outstanding, and thats with aa relatively weak upper body. Even against Hawkins, where Hawkins ragdolls much bigger opponents than Samson, Samson just goes, ok I'll jump over you then.

Too old I think or he would have been nominated last week.

He’s coming along really well, especially considering how much furnishing he still has to do body wise. Lots of upside left. Just hope we don’t break him by playing him in the ruck too much too soon. Nank coming back soon will help. Could be anything in another 2 years.

Let's ditch the 'private schools v working class' agenda, no place for it. I know plenty of private school boys who are now doing very well as tradies, etc. if that's what you mean by 'working class'. If there are many AFL players who are from private schools then so what! Surely their football talent is why they got drafted, not what school they went to. A nurturing home environment also has a huge part to play. Anyway, if those schools nurture talent and provide the right opportunities then isn't that a good thing? If you think students from state schools are not being drafted because of the school they went to then show me the proof. Yes I went to a non-government school and then I taught in state schools for 20 years so I've seen both sides and it's natural talent and a supportive home environment that plays a huge role along with excellent junior coaching.
