An armchair in Sydney
i've seen Cotch lay heavier tackles than that .. and Abletts left shoulder is corroded plastic
Yep - If he had tackled Ablett like he tackled Mumford in 2019, Ablett's arm would broken completely away from the shoulder.

Skip was just being kind to the old man.

Ablett also lucky that Prestia respects him too much to come in after the tackle to give a face massage with his elbow.

Its funny at the time , all pumped up with anxiety ,stress levels through the roof, I wanted someone to seek revenge on Dangerfield , someone to finish off Ablett ,

Now its done and dusted , im glad we just went about our football , gave him the respect he deserved in his last game ,

Winning changes everything ....... Hows the serenity ? :)

I'm firmly in the camp that the break happened when Gablett landed on his elbow.

The irony is if the ump paid the obvious free to Vlastuin then Ablett's injury doesn't happen.

I believe Cotchins brutal tackle on Ablett caused his shoulder injury. If you look closely at the slow motion replay Ablett is grimacing in pain before he hits the ground. Cotch is a battering ram even when he tackles and the force of the collision popped his shoulder out, not the impact when he hit the ground. Another powerful and influential game from our leader where he has fairly taken out a player in a big game.

I had several more looks at it. I agree, he does grimace before he hits the ground. But hard to tell, maybe a hairline fracture form the initial tackle, then finished off once he hit the deck.
Either way, it was a stilt second of pain that stretched out longer :)

an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind,

but a player for a player in the first quarter of a grand final,

makes Trent Cotchin the greatest captain ever to take to a footy oval.

And indeed our Captain Courageous did rain on Ablett's parade, though it was more pain than rain.

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin ready to rain on Gary Ablett’s parade in final AFL game

Normally I would agree, but you can see the grimace as he goes down, not just after he has hit the turf.

It sure looks like something went before he hit the ground.

DS
If you watch the replay properly you will see that Cotch's hand gives Scablett's tackle a half decent rummage as he initially tackles him, might have been the cause of the grimace.
Combination of forceful tackle, dual body weight, trying to get a handball away plus an already twice reconstructed shoulder. Fair chance something was gunna blow up n it did.

If Ablett is grimacing before he hit the ground I would say he was already injured. Seems likely to me as it wasn't an overly aggressive fall to the ground, a pretty standard tackle, but very well performed.

Great photo here of the exact moment of impact.View attachment 11094
Well there couldve be enough force in this mechanism to the posterior aspect of Gazzas already ratshitt shoulder to probably sublux it at the least especially if he's not adequately braced himself for the impact. The rest of the damage done with force pushing up through the shoulder to dislocate or fracture it as he impacts the ground.
Leaning forward and head down is the easiest way to re locate a dislocated shoulder, it is also under impact the easiest way to have it anteriorly dislocated (out the front of the socket)under impact especially from behind with a forward force and even moreso when not braced for the impact.

Great stuff Olden great pic.

Did he suggest any good spa treatments in the area?
