Any chance of this thread getting back on track? Asking for a friend.
Im not sure what you mean. There ies a clear pattern of behaviour from Andrew Forrest, and other miners, in their treatment of Aboriginal people, and this behaviour is directly responsible for Sydney Stack being locked up for a long time simply because he was asleep on the couch and got up to go to the bathroom and walked out the wrong door. Thankfully he wasn't naked at the time.

Its not as simple as that though. The local people were only given exclusive rights over the land in 2017

Your a little bit out with your dates mate,

It was probably somewhere around 37,000 years before richmonds 11th premiership.

Its kind of a shame the malays, portugese, dutch and english skipped quarantine back in the day

Fun fact: the Variola Virus (smallpox) was a global pandemic with a 10-14 day incubation period. A crude vaccine was developed in the late 1700s but wasnt rolled out until later. A small settlement of cedar getters in mullumbimby refused to be vaccinated against the virus

Understand that, but legal title was only granted in 2017. The WA government had granted rights over the area to FMG to mine.

I'm going to back out of this discussion as clearly both sides are way apart in our understanding.

One final point though, I'm not denying that the local people should receive compensation in whatever form for the use of their land (that is now legally their exclusive right) but changing agreements with businesses part way through a legal licencing agreement from the WA government needs some level of negotiation. I'm of the belief that jobs rather than pure money is a better long term solution, clearly some of you believe throwing money at a problem are like Roebourne will fix it, I don't agree but thats where we differ.

Anyway, back to Stackman. I truly hope he can get the support he needs and gets back to Melbourne and back to form. He's such a talent an excitement machine, it would be a tragedy if he was lost too football and to Richmond.

easy, the tragedy of it all is that Roebourne is/was no worse than many other towns.
I've been to Roebourne many times, drank at the Vic Hotel, (it's closed now) used to play cricket there, one of the games was the hottest I've ever been in my life. I swear to god the beers after the game in the club at the ground were the nicest I've ever had in my life.
The closing of the hotel has been good thing for the town, it's been done up and is a grand old building, it's a good little town.
The Roebourne races, now isn't that a day out, as was the Wittenoom races.:blowingup

I really hope that Syd is given another chance at Tigerland, Marlion will put his arm around him.
Covid has been a terrible thing for everyone, and I reckon it was especially so for Syd. An involvement with The Korin Gamadji Institute would be a good thing for him.

Early 80’s it was a hell hole. It was created as a ‘settlement’ for aboriginal people ie those who had been stolen for cheap labor or disenfranchised through systematic abuse. So whiteys like me didn’t have to come across them in port headland etc. I was 6 and knew how awful the conditions there were just from hearing my parents talk.
The good old 1980’s hey. Not sure attitudes to traditional owners has changed all that much... https://aso.gov.au/titles/documentaries/couldnt-be-fairer/clip2/

Riewoldt and Grimes have just confirmed that the AFL covered up another COVID breach in their Adelaide hotel. last year

It was no fault of our club but the hotel opened up to a large group of homeless people when the team was staying there!

The inference from Jack and Dylan was HTF was this allowed to happen, then the AFL gagged any reporting of it.

This is definitely payback for the Gilligan leading the charge in getting Grimes and Flossy hung out to dry on their staging charges and also their targeting of Lynch and leaking to the media that we were being difficult in the hub!

AFL will stuffen hate this so no doubt its been sanctioned by the club. Mess with us and we'll pay you back biatches!

Interesting that Lang Hancock says that, when Lang owned and run Mulga Downs station near Wittenoom, they used to call him the bull of the Pilbara. Is alleged to have fathered a few indigenous children.

theres pretty strong circumstantial evidence he successfully copulated with a toad in the autumn of '53

I used to work for a company that had BHP as a client. The running joke inside and outside the company was how many indigenous kids the company was paying child support for through the activities of its miners through the 70’s and 80’s.

Back to Sydney if we can...is he staying in Perth until his sentencing hearing?
I am struggling to see any scenario where he makes it back to Richmond. Would almost be zero chance he is doing any serious AFL level training.
assuming the judge gives him time already served (big assumption) he will return to Melbourne so far behind he would struggle at a Div 3 EFL team.
Not going to end well.

Yeah you'd think his 2021 will most likely be a write off, which is worrying for him being out of contract at year end.

I'd think what the club wants to see this year from him will be attitude and application. Clearly we know how good a footballer he is and can be, but any contract extension won't be based on his footy in 2021 IMO, it will be based on how he applies himself and pushes himself once he gets back to Melbourne.

The next few months where it seems he needs to remain in Perth, will be about mental fitness rather than physical fitness, making sure that he doesn't fall into any dark spaces.

He still had to miss the first 5 rounds of the season, no matter what. That already put him behind the 8 ball. Not being able to do a pre season with the club makes it that much harder. Got a power of work to do if he wants to make it back up the mountain.

It will be interesting to see what course the club take with Stack.

He had a breakout debut season then suffered the second year blues which quickly spiralled out of control towards the end.

He is young, has extraordinary talent so if the club are happy to keep supporting him and keep him on the list, missing this year won’t be the end of the world for such a strong club. I sense there will be more change to our list at the end of this year compared to last so whether he makes it to 2022 will be his challenge.

Lets hope he can safely navigate this year and the predicament he is in and when he makes it back to the club he is good shape in body and mind.
