Just an idea and I dont know if it can be done, but assuming RFC can get close to 30,000 members next year, why can they deduct $1.00 from every membership purchased, and contribute that towards a Rookie? I personally think increasing membership wouldn't be such a sting, and that way everyone can contribute without it being such an out of pocket expense.

Maybe david C could shed some light as to whether or not this could be done.

Of course our memberships keep going up, how else is the club going to pay it's bills and still have spending money to lash around foolishly?

As for the compulsory dollar per membership for a rookie. Not sure if that would be the best way to work it but maybe the club could add a Pledge-a-Rookie to the membership renewal form. Just add a couple of tick boxes to donate 5-10-20-50 dollars towards a rookie when renewing your membership.
This way it's entirely voluntary and within every ones comfort range.

Sounds like a very good way to find $30K.

It would be very interesting to understand the component breakdown of our total membership finances - However, at this present time, a $1 levy on each membership shoud be devoted to something else.

Here is another way we could raise some money for a rookie. Why dont we get some sponsorship happening on this site and make money everytime www.PRE.com is hit?
