10 free kicks to 20

If the umpiring was fine (and personally I always question it when one team receives double the other for a whole game) then why did we give away so many free kicks? Something we need to address then. Too much exuberance?

how many times did ourplayers dispose of the ball port players still holding on = NO FREE KICK....When we held on to port players for a moment, yep u guessed it a free kick awarded to port...

A kick to treadrea only travels 8 mtrs, a mark = goal....then the same to richmond, ball travels more than that ump signals "play on"...

Holding the ball how many times did port players try and take on the man, incorrect disposal, holding the ball = no free....the other way around the whistle blows in an instanst...

if anyone thinks thats not being dudded they're in dreamland...

i am mate, really wanted this win, believe we deserved the win and its eating at me cause a moment of madness at the end of the game cost us the 4 pts.

Sure the frees against us were a killer but a critical brain fade was the defining moment that cost us...

Ok - I just got back from the game, will post a full report once the kids are fed and in bed. On the umps, I'm pretty sure Collins was given a free for over the shoulder on the bounced ball. Port were given a crapload of frees for hanging on, as they have a few front runners who play for frees. When they receive the footy, if they are about to be tackled, they drop the footy and throw their arms in the air. A tackle is made and the umpy pays "holding the man". Bloody infuriating.

Our guys had a dip today and played some very good footy. Probably deserved the win. I just can't understand why Pettifer played and Jack didn't - having no target in the forward line seems ridiculous.

Nahas was fantastic, Cuz was excellent, Coughlan good also. Tambling was constanty abused br feral Port supporters about being "soft", interesting to me seeing as I think Port havd the most soft players per capita in the league. Burgoynes (yes, I know only one played today), Pearce and Motlop contstantly showboat and play for free kicks and it drives me mad.

Anyway, sh*t finish, I am heartbroken but you have to hand it to the guys they tried their guts out.

Much prefer to see the umpires let the game go as they did today than enforece every rule to the letter of the law. They missed a few but they always will.

Agree. You just scrape the bottom of the barrell when you start blaming everyone else for your teams' loss.

Certainly not the umpires fault we lost. 10 points up with 3 minutes to go, should win from there regardless of the umpiring.

I agree umpires were not the difference today!

BUT

In the 3rd quarter - Did I see Morton take a mark about 35 metres out and was tackled immediately as he crouched on the ground - from memory that is a 50 metre penalty - he should have been kicking from inside the goal square - but instead the umpire did not award the 50 metre penalty and Morton from 35metres out kicked a behind.

I wasn't dreaming that was!?

The worst mistake for the day was the Robbie Gray play on from the mark in the first qtr when he slipped then put the hand up to say that he would go back and take a set shot after he'd run on by 4 steps. Umpire agreed as he was a Port player and he duly slotted it !!!!

Did Tredrea admit that?

Must admit I was in no mood to hear that wanker talk after the game. Good honesty from him if thats the case and yet another wrong decision going against us.

How many times did Port drop the ball today while being tackled? I lost count. >:(

Yeah that was amazing and did my head in, I don't think anywhere in the rule book that says 'put the whistle away if there's a bit of rain about'

What was even worse geds was that the umpire let him take the set shot from where he slipped, not from where he took the mark. So he lined up for goal more than 2 metres to the right of where he took the mark - directly in front. Absolutely disgraceful decision.

I'm not one to complain about the umpires generally - it reminds me too much of Collingwood fans and I refuse to lower myself to their standard no matter what. But the umpires had a pretty bad day today and we copped the short straw. Given the closeness of the match there is absolutely no reason why they should have had double the number of frees we had.

No the umpires didn't cost us the game. We should have been able to hang onto the lead we had with some smarter decisions at the end of the match. But poor umpiring is poor umpiring. I expect a better performance than that from them.
