In the pre-season draft, do the players nominate the salary they require and contract length etc eg Camperxxoommm (from Carlton). Could that be the difference between the standard 2 year term and the others???

Yes but they don't have to. Woewodin would have played for basic wages and a minimum contract. When we took Knobel last year he had nominated a salary and two year contract in a bid to get to Carlton where he had already negotiated his deal but we jumped in first. His nominated contract was then taken over by Richmond.

As is their habit, Essendon had negotiated with Camporeale but not with Carlton so yet again they extricate a player from his club and get him for nothing. That's why clubs are reluctant to deal with them. They won't strike a deal unless it is in their favour because they poison the player towards his club knowing that they can use the PSD as the back door.

All first time AFL players whether National Draft or PSD are guaranteed two year contracts.

It's a basic tenet of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which can be downloaded from the AFL web site.
