16 Points up in the last quarter - and still get done!

Thursty hasn't actually been turning it on at Coburg so why should he automatically be given a berth? Beside we had our own goal sneak with a tidy 5, the loss was more about understanding the position of the game and playing accordingly.

No midfielder awareness to stand goal side at clearances and drop in the hole as a sweeper, had just as much importance as Tredrea kicking 7, although it does hurt when we have no big strong KPP in our forward line.

Thursfield is the type of player that will never tear a game apart - no matter what grade of football he is playing.

His big strength lies in the fact that he can negate and blanket an opponent. How many goals have his opponents been kicking on him at Coburg? I suspect not many. He is very rarely beaten.

Thursfield needs to be given the number 1 defenders role - preferably at Full Back and 4 times out 5 will beat the oppositions number 1 forward in this role. His inclusion in the side will also free up Bowden to be used in a more creative role rather than taking the No 1 forward. Cannot believe that Thursfield is not in the team - hardly surprising that we are 1 - 7 when your no 1 defender is out of the side.

:clap

Thursfield is a shutdown defender, nothing else. The only way to judge his performance is how many goals are getting kicked on him. I am yet to here if anyone has pantsed him at Coburg, so surely he would be worth bringing in to the side if he is fit.

But enough of the excuse, no doubt about it that Mitch Morton cost us the game. I've never seen such a stupid act from a DUMB DUMB footballer. Only a minute to go, and he plays on and kicks it outta bound on the full. Seriously they really know how to break your heart.

A mistake sure but did his brilliant snap from the boundary cost us the game too?

There were a number of factors that 'cost us the game'. Unfair to pin it on one player.

when you consider we had zero tall marking options up forward today it was a bloody good effort...we were relying on the smallest bloke in the AFL to kick goals and up the other end Treadrea was doing what he liked ...for the first quarter at least....not sure who was on him...but all his marks were on the chest running forward with either Moore or McGuane 3 metres behind....and he missed two or three in the first as well. The poor effort early on Tredrea really cost us badly...

Don't worry about the loss folks - it was for the best.

Just think of the draft picks.

What's the point of scraping wins with the pensioners ?

Thursfield doesn't create play - that's why he's in the 2nds.

As for icing the clock - *smile*. We have lost games in the past from going too defensive too early.

The reason we lost today is that the football gods are total jokes, and they should have a very good think about the disgraceful manner in which they are distributing football karma.

Never suggested icing the clock - only suggested we should have had a mid-fielder on the defensive side of the ball ups and throw ins. And maybe a loose player sweeper in defence.........Coaching manual 101 stuff........

What would you prefer - a player like Thursfield that can shut down and negate a player like Tredrea and keep him to 2 to 3 goals for the day or an undersized player like Moore on him who may be more creative but ends up getting pantsed with Tredrea going to town and kicking 7.

::) ::) ::)

And i suppose Simmonds, Edwards, Raines and Pettifer all dominated Coburg for weeks before getting their call ups during the year?? What a load of $hite. Our most promising full back is left at Coburg, while that marshmallow hack Bowden continually gets a game. Did you see his great spoil and man marking when Tredrea took the mark to put Port in front right at the end of the game?? That's right, our so called experienced defender had no idea, once more!!

I for one am happy with the result as a win would have been another false showing. With our so called best side on the park, we were 16 pnts up in the last qtr and still failed to win. God help us if we play our worst side then.

Time for the board to give Wallace the ultimatum that he either plays the kids and stays for the year, or he gets pushed now. Only decent senior player we have on our list at the moment is Cousins!! Only one that showed any leadership on the weekend. The rest should be resigned to Coburg till their contracts run out!! Enough is enough.

Personally, not worried about the result.

Didn't follow the game, as I was at the Victorian U18 Trial game at Vic Park this afternoon but, from what I picked up on the radio, this was the first game this season that the Tigers in the 2nd half, threw the short gameplan out the window, kicked it long, and gave a good account of themselves.

I heard Bartlett say, you can't crumb if there aren't any. Today showed that if you move the ball quickly and long up the corridor to a 50/50 contest up forward, or over the pack, you can give your forwards a chance.

Hopefully this is how the game actually was.

Might mean that something may come from this season, if they can continue playing a long game.

Let's hope so. But I can't help feeling that the conditions are about the only reason the short game went out the window. That and the string of umpiring decisions that called our kicks too short and their kicks long enough (not that umpring cost us the game, but blimey you get no favours at Feral Park)

Hey Dudley, I'm not suggesting the others you mentioned should be getting a game, but rewind the tape to last year and Thursty wasn't playing good footy then either. Was drooped from memory for poor performance. Had an interrupted pre season and has struggled IMO. To me he's down on confidence and that wouldn't be necessarily fixed by playing against the big gun forwards in the seniors. A few more weeks at Coburg should seem him right.

And regarding Bowden V Tredrea in the last minute. Watch the tape again, I only noticed it on the news last night but Tredrea pushed Bowden fair in the middle of the back and knocked him out of the marking contest as they were both running for the ball. Should have been a free against Port and we would have won the game more than likely. That simple. Today, who knows whether it would have made a difference to the result, but you brought it up.

WITH 5 MINUTES TO GO MY WIFE COMMENTED DON.T THEY FIND A NEW WAY OF BREAKING YOUR BALLS EVERY TIME, AND YEP IT SURLY CAME, THEY ARE LIKE WRESTLERS WHO NEVER SEEM TO TIRE OF SLAMMING THEIR SUPPORTERS, NOW ARE WE GOING TO PUT TOGETHER SOME MEANINGLESS WINS IN THE SECOND HALF OF SEASON TO FINISH 9TH BUT NEVER ACTUALLY REALLY LOOKING LIKE WE WERE A CHANCE AT THE 8, PLAY ONLY PLAYERS THAT HAVE A CHANCE OF BEING THERE IN 2010
