Now before you all scream at me I will admit I found this on big footy but I still think its a bit of fun. The Macca's add at the start is a crack up and brings back memories, as does the Channel 7 promo. Forgot those trams used to be painted Orange and I didn't realise they were so old, I still think of them as the new trams.

I thought about posting it here since it shows the Flea's debut match where he kicks a goal with his first kick in league footy and also Balmy cleaning up Carl Ditterich in a match where Ditterich gets reported. Plenty of tiger highlights but unfortunately it doesn't appear that the first few round of '78 were desparately successful for us. I can't emember how we did that year.

Good to see a bit of rough stuff again. Shows how sterile the modern game is getting. Also interesting to see that it's the Richmond matches that seem to have the most biffo in them. Go the mighty Tiges!

Thanks for that... Missing footy already with how long to go?.... and to get this was excellent!
Go Tigers, Eat'em Alive! (and beat the *&%$ out of the other teams 1970's style)

Did you notice the Bartlett handpass? Must be the only one of his career. :hihi (Sorry Rhett)

From my Tigerland History Book 1978 saw:

- Kevin Sheedy replace Francis Bourke as Captain
- Barry Richardson was coach (his last year as he was sacked after the season ended with Tony Jewell taking over)
- Tony Jewell was appointed Reserves and Assistant coach
- Royce Hart retired in 1977
- We beat Carlton 25.24 to 14.13 in the first round with David Cloke and Alan Edwards kicking 7 goals each
- But after that we didn't go so well and slide down the ladder to 8th quoting bad morale
- We won some games and got back into the 5 but then finished at 7th
- Worse finish in 10 years; big leads squandered and lost games we should have won
- Bartlett finished 4th in the Brownlow to Malcolm Blight
- Geoff Raines was Best and Fairest
- Weightman was Best first year player
- Ian Wilson was President (Caro's father I presume)

Thats all. I haven't opened this book in years might just have another read.

Might have had something to do with Barry Richardson addressing the players in the rain at 3/4 time while standing under a pink umbrella. Caused a stir at the time.

My dad used to get the Sporting Globe home-delivered at that time. It ran a story before Round 2, complete with a big portrait of a grinning Sheedy, which opened with something about our big win against Carlton followed by "...and last year's premiers North Melbourne are next on the chopping block." Talk about building up expectations! Needless to say we were thrashed down at Arden St.

Yeah the "new Orange trams now theres a memory, as well as the ol Blue and Yellow trains as well as the ol red rattlers i caught as a kid.

Also remember the ol Petrol stations such as TOTAL, AMACO, GOLDEN FLEECE.

One could get a kg of mixed lollies for a buck, potato cakes and dimmies were 10c and flake was bugger all not $4

Paddle pops awere 20 c and icypoles were 10c not over a dollar as they are now.

Ahhh life was great back then wasnt it.

I remember the Orange trams very well Craig, but not the "Blue & Yellow" ones. There was however a lot of GREEN & Yellow ones rattling around Melbourne. ;D

Nah, Blue and Yellow trains. They were mainly blue with a yellow stripe if I remember. They are like they never existed.

Found one!
