You know Skills, i do believe you're quite right there! Had the wind got hold of their banner, i doubt they would have got much help from our cheer squad to keep it standing!

Not sure if you got my PM response Skills, i seem to have probs getting PM's to send, but i'm easy with questions from any year to be honest!

In 1981, which Richmond player was ordered to continuous goal kicking practice first thing Monday morning following a match we lost on the weekend?
Hint: We lost to the Pies.

If my memory serves me correctly thats the round where they had to use reserves grade umpires as the senior umpires were on strike. I 'think' we lost the game by less than a goal, and had one goal adjudged as a point when it was marked clearly over the goal line!

I can remember Terry Smith missing an easy goal, running in almost directly in front after the incident just mentioned! (or was it Tim Gepp?) I'll go with Terry Smith as the answer!

What a horrible game, Peter Moore was paid that 'mark' in the third row of seats and we didn't get credited with a score.

QUESTION 10

All these quotes are from season 1980.............

Match the Quote to the individual (there are two quotes attributable to Ron Barassi, Tony Jewell and Frank Bibby, so either prefix will do)!

some of these are obvious others will be a process of elimination!

17) "Here are the remnants of my shorts - as you can see there was a lot of pressure on them - my athletic support was very tight at the time"!

Don't know who that was , but there is a good chance he was playing on Terry Wheeler.

Both frickenel and LTRTR are on the money. It was the late Terry Smith.

The Umpire's Strike was the weekend 8th & 9th August 1981.

I was a Reserve Grade boundary umpire at that time and was supposed to be promoted to the Geelong V Fitzroy game at Waverley Park. Unfortunately I didn't have the phone on at home and there was no such thing as a mobile phone so I couldn't be contacted.

I ended up being emergency field umpire for the reserves match, then umpired the Essendon V Melbourne reserves game at South Melbourne (Army Reserve Cup) I think it was then on the Sunday.

How does one get to be a umpire at AFL level? Is it a case of whio you know or is there actual scouts out patrol for emerging talent?

You'll stand out from the crowd mate. You'd be the one standing by yourself, with no friends. ;D

Yes, the late Terry Smith - may God rest his soul. Loved him in the #46 guernsey in 1980. Was rapt to see him get the famous #10 in 1981. Somehow, he was never the same player in the #10. Loved him just the same.

I looked this one up because i swear i could remember the umpire strike round being the Collingwood game, but you are quite right Tiger29. Just goes to show that a person's memory isn't a perfect record of events no matter how clearly the minds eye sees it!

QUESTION 11

(since nobody is game to have a shot at the quotes :-P )

This is from 1997 to current!

July 1997 U18's Vic Metro faced off against SA

Two of the combatants, one from Vic Metro, and one from SA would later face off in the 2008 AFL Grand Final, again on opposite teams!

Name them!

I don't know if you remember but the Essendon V Melbourne game was when Ronnie Andrews & Mark Jackson played on each other. Both acted like idiots and I think both were reported. The poor Reserve Grade field umpires who were promoted for the day didn't know what had struck them.
