I was watching the 1980 GF yesterday on Foxtel and was marvelling how Geoff and Andrew Raines are SOOO alike (even to the point of kicking it without looking). I thought it would be fun to compare some of the players over the two eras. e.g.
Bourke (full back) - Thursfield - they both move and anticipate well. both are a little undersize for FB
Freame - Jackson - red hair and agressive utilities
Bartlett - Pettifer - bith avoid physical contests but both cover a lot of ground and of course love a goal
Keane - Newman - both skilled, balanced and very underrated
Wiley - Foley - small, tough rovers with great vision and run all day
Malthouse - King - agressive and hard back pockets who love a physical contest.
Anyone else have some thoughts?
