1985, I think, while cleaning a drawer

I have vague memories of 1985, but what I do remember is that we started off the season in pretty good form. I remember seeing a game between the Woods and the Tiges at VFL park where both Roach and James were in fire - I am sure this game was in the first 8 rounds. Anyway the form dropped away markedly and the season ended in very very ordinary fashion.

Yes that's right.
The boys did go great guns at the start. The highlight was, I think, a 100 point thrashing of StKilda at the G. I think it started going wrong when the young & tall CHF/Rk Barling wrecked his knee. The season spiralled downwards after that.

Excellent work Panto - I hope someone at the club does something with the information - this is archival and should be preserved.

A few games early in 1985 gave the Tigers some hope of making the finals. There were big wins against St Kilda & Hawthorn. There was an impressive display by Stephen James in the first Q. Rnd 5 against the Pies. But, as Phantom stated, our "off the field" affairs were in turmoil and our results "on field" were a direct reflection. Good wins towards the end of the season against the Cats & Demons, gave me great pleasure in saying goodbye to two of my heroes, Robert Wiley & Mervyn Keane.

The same could not be said about our coach Paul Sproule, who decided to address his players holding an umbrella at 1/4 time in a match at Princess Park. Gee...those players who were gettng soaking wet, must have relished at those motivating words in Sproule's address.
