1995 What do you remember.

What i remember from 1995:

1) Richo was a sharpshooter that season, until he was struck down by injury in Sydney.
2) Rd 3 against Hawks at Waverley Park it was pouring all day and we couldn't buy a goal... we won by 6 points (4.16.40 to 5.4.34). Frustrating to watch, but luckily we won. Sadly the last time i got to go see Tony Free play.
3) Rd 4 against Roos we turned it on, Daffy starred up forward. I still have the herald sun liftout/stats from that victory.
4) Rd 9 after beating Sydney we were sitting ON TOP of the AFL ladder until Rd 13.
5) Rd 11 against the Eagles, Nathan Bower taught Peter Matera a little respect as we flogged them by 10 goals.
6) Rd 16 in an exciting win against Freo (in WA), Jason Torney kicked his first goal in AFL... perhaps the worst/ugliest scrubber of a goal I have ever seen :)
7) 1st Qual Final against Roos was a disappointment. First Richmond final I had ever seen/gone to, and I was on the train home during the final quarter.
8) Most inspirational and memorable game I have ever seen came a week later when we beat the Bombers. Knights, Turner and Rogers provided many awesome memories from that game.
9) Geelong were still a bogey side and I knew we were in trouble when we had to face them... i remember Butchy breaking Benny's nose in a collision, and then kicking the ball 60m the wrong direction :(
10) 1995 to me was a year where we finally had a fantastic ruckman in Greg Dear. Brendon Gale starred at CHB. We made the finals without Matthew Richardson and Tony Free. Every player chipped in and played consistently well (M.Gale, S.Wigney, N.Daffy, M.Rogers, Knighter, Brodders, Maxfield, Bondy, Naish, Tape, Dunc, JC, Merenda, Bower etc)

That was an amazing game.

The Tigers had been hit by injuries. Richo was gone, Freezer was gone, so was Wigney.
I recall Bulluss had to play at CHF, and an 18yo David Bourke played at CHB. And this was against the previous year's premiers. To thrash them, as the boys did was an enormous achievement.

Northey's tactics were to hit them hard and to hit them early. This worked well in this game and the one against the Roos.

Ah, fond memories.

remember it well , I had just coached Railton Tigers to the flag in tassie and we were on our players trip up at Great Lakes , got very messy after that amazing comeback !

Ah, fond memories.
Don't usually buy videos of games, apart from the premierships. But made an exception for this game. Gave my boss, an eagles supporter, heaps for weeks. Brave move but he was too shattered to do anything about it ;D
Bower was the matera specialist.Did nothing for most of the year but always stopped matera for some reason.

That was almost the highlight of the David Bourke era. He dominated that day and I really truely thought that we had unearthed  a gun. How wrong I was. :-X

I had a poster of D.Bourke taking an absolute SCREAMER over James Hird... but i think it was early '96... possibly 97?

Round 1 1996 for Bourke, he also played some good games in the backline in 96 as well.
I thought the manure incident was in 2001.

There was an earlier manure incident I recall, or maybe it was what sprang forth from Mal Brown's verbals at the time.
I place it as early 1994.

sorry Phantom I only remember this one

was 1994/95 the sheep hearts incident

found this though.

A fuming Richmond fan took a load off his mind by dumping a truckoad of chicken manure outside the club headquarters to let them know how he was feeling.

The fan, known as “Gecko” dumped the manure and said his painting company had withdrawn its membership at the club.

Gecko said he had chosen chook manure in order to send a specific message to the Richmond Football Club.

"They (players) are like chickens and the s..t because they stink, they honestly do," he told the Herald Sun newspaper.

"A lot of fans have just run out of patience.

"This is my way of sending a clear message to the club saying they should listen to the supporters."

Chief executive Mark Brayshaw was not amused by Gecko's antics.

"It's just a cheap publicity stunt," he told the Herald Sun.

"We're not even going to dignify it with a response.

"We've got bigger things to deal with, like trying to win a game against Fremantle."

Bower was the only player we had who had the pace to go with Matera. Later on Broderick used to match up on him quite well. Brodders seemed to get under Matera's skin. Matera would do his block and lose the plot and that pretty much nullified him for the rest of the game.

Bower was quite the antagonist too. It must of been common knowledge at RFC that if you irritate Matera, you've all but beaten him. Sook. :hihi

Sounds as if He actually did dignify by responding. Ah Mark Brayshaw, where are you now?

As good a year as it was, I still remember singing the theme song at Waverley in the last 1/4 of the preliminary against Geelong.  We were getting thumped but we all stood up and sang the Tiger song proudly.

I think we all realised that ability wise, we over-achieved that year, but nobody could ever underestimate our passion.  Shame it was so short lived.
Warms the cockels of me weary heart just thinking about that barmy

We even drowned out the PA after the siren when the cats tune was playing .

Remember antagonising the cats fans as we walked fromthe ground ....

"How will it feel to lose 4 grand finals in 7 years" was our taunt ..... ahhh we don`t don`t half have it over that lot in the "Schit Hanging stakes" , Bradley sure is keeping the flag flying  :rofl

melbourne went tiger mad that year, i was only 12 but i remember it well.

year 7 at high school.... 6 goals in 8 mins match was best because north use to always have 2 extra players on there team against us and they were wearing white, tigers beating ess in that final i was there and we had a big party at our house that night
