2 things I hate about the Grand Final

l agree totally its the 1 thing l think the A.R.L win hands down over the A.F.L the pre game entertainment

You're kidding surely?
The AFL's entertainment may not be great but the ARL's has always been amateur in comparison.

Having been to a few of both I can only agree ToO. ARL is Mickey Mouse.

The problem is that most pre game entertainment is shallow and trite however the AFL hit the target far more often than the ARL IMHO. The tributes to the old stars and retiring players for example are great.

Hmm, promotion for both Toyota (oh what a feeling) and CUB (flashbeer) with the one song. Brilliance. :-\

How about trotting out a 15-20 year old song just because it has the words "What a feeling" in it which also happens to be the Toyota catchphrase and the song itself is performed on a giant stage with the Toyota emblem emblazoned across the top of it. Fair Dinkum. This show costs the AFL, what 1 million or so. Why not just throw that money at AC/DC and Jet to belt out a couple of songs each.

Dunno if that'd be enough to get AC/DC, they knocked back the closing ceremony at the Sydney Olympics.

The entertainment always seems to be something of a half-measure. If the AFL scaled it back to a rendition of the national anthem, they'd be able to snip a few dollars off the price of tickets and I don't know that too many people would be disappointed; I can still remember the crowd booing Peter Allen before the 1980 GF. My view is a bit biased though as I don't think that music and sport make a great mix in the first place.

I agree. Bring it back to the football.

Well, I did the right thing and went out to KFC to get some lunch while it was on. What did people think of it? I only saw the 'highlights' on the news. Must say, I thought Irene Cara did a brilliant job miming the song. All that money and effort spent to import a karaoke singer :) .

Went to the Grand Final again this year....and went out afterwards down the Casino way....gee, we HAVE to make a Grand Final (and win it!).
Just have to.

Couldn't stand us making it and losing it....we have to win it if we make it.
And if we did, the partying in the city afterwards would be HUGE!!!! 8)

Was at the sports-bar where they were showing the Liverpool game on one screen, and the replay of the GF on the other....place full of Eagles supporters....cheering every goal, the final siren, the trophy lift, etc.
Just imagine it was Richmond....

About the pre-game entertainment....it goes for far too long.

The old days were better, when you had the under-19s, the ressies, an hour of entertainment, and then the big game.

Now, with only the under-18's playing....theres about 2.5 hours to try and fill.

Oh No.

The fun police are out and about. People are complaining about The Big "Q" using the f-bomb on CH 10 in his post match interview.

How dare he show genuine emotion and get caught up in the moment. And using the dirty word would have ruined peoples day and put them in a grumpy moody for days, weeks maybe even months.

And another thing why do people smile at strangers? Those blighters have no right to be happy.

Used to be worth going when the Thirds, the Reserves and the big boys played.

That way you had an idea of who were likely to be future stars - tho I did pick a wrongy with Jacko!

Do what I do, turn on the tv half an hour after the starting time and, if you're lucky, they're just about ready to bounce the ball.

Half-time? easy, make a pot of tea, put some crumpets on and/or go and mow the lawn. Much better entertainment than what's on offer. :clap

the pre-game entertainment gets worse every year. i cringe every time... i've never heard of the cara whatshername before. australian idol was a joke, and those oldies were an even bigger joke. they get b-grade "stars" every year. if they're gonna keep this up i think it should be scrapped. at least they didn't have those club emblems again this year that look like overgrown crown casino chips.

i do like the respect they pay for retirees. maybe they should expand on the history of the game in the pre-game entertainment? this will teach the foreigners and bandwagon interstate supporters what this game means to us... they did this quite well in the commonwealth games opening ceremony...

Ian4,
I'm sorry....but they did! :-X
Well sort of.....they had one BIG circle, with the club emblems in shapes....like a Trivial Pursuit piece, or a piece of pie.....with the stage in the middle.
