2001: A Space Odyssey

The best moment/game of that season was when we won the 'payback' game against the Western Bulldogs as I remember the whole Telstra Dome bursting with the loudest Tiger roar I've ever heard.

Spud, with the other coaches, was jumping up with excitement in the coaches box after the siren and nearly every Tiger supporter yelled out bad words in unison at Libba and the Western Bulldogs.

And guess who their coach was..........................

Good call Tigerforce, but the following week at the G under lights Vs Carey and the kangas was a classic. Richo kicked the winning goal with seconds to go after the most brilliant upfield play, from a kickin and play on from Gaspar passed up the guts to Leon Cameron who put it on Richo's chest from 60 metres away...........sweeeeeet.

Ahh the memories. '95 2nd semi Tiges V Essendon. Now that was a classic. ;)
I hope we're all around to see the next good chapter. ???

No it wasn't. The Dogs game was rd 17
Rd 18 Magpies we won by 20 pts
Rd 19 Lost to Bris Vegas at the Gabba came from 57 pts down in the 3rd and got to within 11 before Copeland kicked a few goals to steady the Lions who won by 31.
Rd 20 Beat Eagles at the dome by 65
Rd 21 was North and Richo didn't take it on the chest he literally pushed Teague of North in the head and took in above his own head. That North game Richo kicked 1.7 and the winning goal was his only goal as we got up by four points.

2001 Oh for the memory
My poor son started attending games that year and wanted to become a member for 2002 ... you all know the feeling ... winning, finals, premierships ... then we wake up!
I tried to warn him that life as a Tiger supporter was not that easy ... kids have to learn the hard way ...

The previous preliminary final we had (1995) was worse. Geelong 129 Tigers 40. Geelong then got done by Carlton. After Brisbane done us by 68 points they then went on to win the Grand Final.

The 1995 team was better than the 2001 team. I genuinely believe we had the nucleus of a team for some sustained success then but of course Northey then had his brain fade.

2001, great year.

The key & most important memory I have of that year was it signified the last time we played as a unified team ,consistantly for a year.

We lacked skill & polish but Frawley & Co got us there.

2 years later watching RFC they had travelled from the North Pole to the South Pole such was the turnaround. Unbelievable. :-[

As I recall, after that great year, Paul Broderick and Brendon Gale retired, and IMHO we lost a hell of a lot of fire power, so Spuds great top up plan fell flat on its arse.

No question about it ... it was a pretty good side indeed. At one stage were'nt we 10-1 or 11-1 then lost narrowly to Carlton ? Richo got injured too which hurt bad ...

Highlight of the year was undoubtedly big Scotty Turner walloping Essendon in the Final (mind you some Matty Knights goals str8 from the middle were classics too). Oh, the memories, the pain ...
