2004 Draftees

By my count Brisbane are playing 7 players with under 2 years experience
4 on interchange, 2 on HBF & 1 in Fwd pocket
lets see how the lions go, i for one have tipped them

due to injuries (Scott & Lappin) some of the young bloods are included. Good on them for this selection. But the point is, no team if necessary will play three to four youngsters all at once (unless they're rebuilding).

I know it's still early days, but is anyone concerned that Deledio,is the only one playing tonight out of our much hyped first 5 picks from the 04 draft! Am i expecting to much to soon ?

We never seem to recruit a good bunch of kids together. It seems the ones we draft also take a while and in a lot of cases just dont make it at all. Other teams seem to be able to play their young kids much earlier than we do.

Part A) No I'm not concerned too much.

Part B) Yes, quite possibly. If it were the same at round 22 this year, then I'd probably be concerned.

I think you could probably give them 2 or 3 more years without having to push the panic button. It would be nice if they all progressed as well as Lids but it just ain't going to happen. I remember Geelong being in the bottom half for 5 or so years with a team full of youngsters before they really started to come on. Now they have an embarrassment of riches. St Kilda was much the same.

Remember we're just 1 year into our rebuilding.

At this stage Deledio is the only certainty from the 2004 draft to be a long term AFL player & probable superstar.Too early to be concerned about the others & they need to be given time although I would have hoped more than 1 would be in the side at the moment.

I hope a few of the 2003 draft step up this year.

There's a few here still waiting for guys from the 1999,2000, 2001,2002 drafts to step up. ;D

And there is the reason for our current woes.
