2006 Season Draw

Doesn't sound too good does it? Dwayne's theory is it'll stop Tiger fans getting too *smile*-a-hoop at the start of the season and then let down at the end as usual - his idea, not mine.

West Coast in Perth then the Lions in Brisbane off a five day break well it'll be five by the time we get back give me a break!!!!!!!! The longest road trips for Victorian teams in successive weeks, you can't be serious?

I think it was speculation rather than fact wasn't it?

i was listening to 3aw today and they announced some of the games for round 1 but didn't mention richmond. i hope the above draw is not true. it looks like a nightmare. but on the positive side, we start off the year with 2 friday night games. now that excites me after all those sunday games this year!!!

If thats the draw then we need to be going at 100kph at round one and sneak a few early wins and then see what happens.
This could change the focus of the preseason so that we start with a flyer again

This is a provisional draw given to all clubs for their feedback. If we don't kick up a stink about going to Perth then Brisbane then something is wrong. If we travel 6 times interstate then we do, i'm not worried about that but in successive weeks it is a bit much.

You'll find we have a 'home' game against either the Saints ot Dogs at Docklands. Yeah, our home game at their home venue!

If we have a hard start to the season, we will need to look at it positively.

I could be a big chance to get a few great wins early in the season to give us self belief.

And also, you would assume our end to the season would be easier with most games in Melb, which could be important if we are a chance to make the finals.

yeah we need to be positive.

and if the rumour is true about us playing the dawks in tassie... as much as i'd hate to play another melbourne team interstate (even if we're the away team), well i've never been to tassie, so i'll probably jump on the boat.

might have enough frequent flyers to get to perth as well

Well, I tell you what....if the Boringwealth Games at the MCG is causing the AFL to schedule a heap more interstate games, would you, as an alternative to having to play interstate, rather see Richmond play a few games on Monday night at Telstra Dump ?

Would that be more preferable and if so, what is Wrighty doing about it ?

Would this mean our run home may be more favourable... ie more time at the G?

As I understand it, yeah the way the draw looks like coming out, the second half of the year may be much more favourable. But will it be too late by then ? Dunno. Depends on how you look at it i.e. instead of us playing so many away games early on with a number of home games being played in the second half of the season (the majority of which would be at the MCG ), we'd instead have a much more balanced home/away schedule early on, albeit that we'd maybe end up having one or two more games at the Dump for the year overall.

You have to question the AFL for having any team travel to the two furtherest destinations in consecutive weeks and I hope RFC voice their protest.

Hopefully we'll come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders like we did last season and get some early wins against the odds.
