im going to follow this thread with glee. i can just see the brighteyed bushy tailed ferals swallowing that gobbledygook with unfettered enthusiasm.
how the bloody hell are the kids going to get 50 games under their belts with so many high priced duds on the list demanding games and terry insisting we win games at all costs.sometimes just sometimes you have to do the hard yards first before success comes.
by god i thought clinton casey was the master of spindoctoring but i think miller surpasses him.

;) ;) ;) Well said Claw my son :clap

We'll struggle to make the 8 in 2007 with our current list let alone challenge for a flag.  Let's just concentrate on building a stronger list first.
Had Brown not broken his leg the current list would have made the 8 in 2005. I can't see the Tigers winning a flag or even making the top 4 in 2007, but with improvement from a number of current players and youngsters like Deledio, Tambling & Meyer toughened up after a couple of seasons and getting regular games I can see the side cementing themselves in the 8 by 2007.
spot on carn your on the money here mate
is nathan brown just one player or half the footy team.get real ferals we had had few injuries a fantastic draw and a new coach and we finished 12 beating few quality sides.
i ask myself why are so many so easily fooled and why cant they see more than 1 yr down the track.

Its time that many looked realistically and systematically at the clubs performance last season. Yep we had an easy draw ansd still got nowhere in the end.
Brownie is one man as good as he is but for anyone to think a side that carries as many subskilled and soft passengers as we do wouldve made an impact just cos Brown was there is dead set delusional.
I agree there is no way absolutely no wayy we will be premiership contenders in 07 in fact if we dont pay more attention to recruiting young talent ratehr than floating along with the same list as we will pretty much be doing next year then the tiges may struggle to be top 8 contenders in 07 let alone poremiership challengers.
Deledio, Bling and Meyer are top youngsters absolute top notch yet three youn midfielders is not team re building, yes Thursfield is also a vey exciting prospect but that makes only 4 with questions still being asked about Hartigan and Jackson who must both be given game time ahead of duds such as Chaffey and Tivendale.
One simple fact that also must be consisdered is that Richo who has carried us for 10 years is 31 and can no longer be expected to run himself into the ground every week, truth is injury will start to catch up with his aging body and compromises will have to be sought in regard the Calf plays his game in regard to longevity.
Therefore young Key forwards must be identified and recruited along with key defenders and the strike rate is so poor with talls that up to 5 or 6 would need to be taken over time to allow for at least one Tall to kick on up forward as well as down back this is a MASSIVE MASSIVE CRISIS for the RFC over the coming 2-3 years and i'll guarantee anyone who thinks that Ray Hall and Jay Schulz will be the answers then they are most surekly kidding themselves.
I have got to the point in regards to Miller that i no longer believe anything he says and actually rely more upon you guys and girls my fellow PRE's to provide me with inside news, gossip and rumor as we have some very very good hounds on PRE.
I too will take a great interest in this thread should it survive long enuff ;)

Some excellent points Craig. I agree totally, it is in the key position areas where we need to concentrate, or we will struggle to get very far. I think we've done extremely well in recruiting players of potential and calibre around the ground but I do worry about the keys. I am hoping our recruitment focus over the next couple of years will be in this area, as I am with you in respect to Jay Schulz and most definitely Ray Hall.

Cheers

Found this old article on here....an interesting read now that the time has come. Now we're being told it's 2011, no wonder we are restless with all the spinning.

One wonders if Miller/Wallace will be around in 2011 - I guess if they are we will be doing well by then....hopefully anyway.

To be honest I'm tired of all the talk/apologies/14 year plans, I'd just like to see some results and these younger recruits being developed, which we seem to struggle to do....

"2007 is Tigers' time: Miller "

Couldn't have been any further off the mark. But then again... he rarely is on the mark. At least not while he has been at the tigers anyway. :help

"The confidence of the young men at our footy club has grown, and with 40-50 games under their belt I think by 2007 we are going to be in a strong position to challenge," he said.

Ouch. Obviously meant for the spoon.

Over to you Greg.. :-\

IF you read that whole thread there is no way around admitting this: All of us brightsiders owe Claw (Craig, Diggler et al) a huge apology. The man's analysis and resultant forecast was spot on: extraordinarily so.

I am not going over to the dark side, but I now recognise the validity of their comments, then and since. Doesnt help us out of our present state; but I for one will be more inclined to listen going forward.

I'm soooo over Miller. Apparently the board is as well. They clipped his wings and won't let him sign those ridiculous 5 year contracts without their approval. I'll be happy to see the back of smoke and mirrors Miller.

Thanks for putting the RFC back half a decade Greg. The only bright spots at present is the youth policy and our new president Gary March who seems a more down to earth than Clinton Casey.

I hope Terry can turn around his coaching. If not he'll probably do a runner anyway like he did with the Bulldogs.

"We believe that at choice eight in the (national) draft this year we will get a matchwinner and we think the depth of the real quality players (in this year's draft) goes beyond eight and hence our desire to maintain it," Miller said.

Miller said the reason the Tigers would have so few picks this year compared to last year was the club now had the foundations of a good playing list.

"We just need to consolidate our list a bit and give these young kids a bit more time to mature."

Actually this part is a real worry....we should have had more picks (we only had 3 picks)

Four if you count White in the PSD, but yeah I agree, there were plenty on the list who could have made room for more. The question is did Miller (and others in the industry) rate the 2005 draft high enough to top up the list with last picks?

Yep, without a doubt the dumbest thing Miller has ever said since he was a baby. And funnily enough, no one bought it at the time, either.

Miller's best work has been off-field - bringing stability to the board, luring a quality coach.

On-field has been a different story. I get the feeling that Greg has not adequately studied Tigerland's history. Let me explain:

In terms of recruiting players, Greg seems to be the only man alive who does not understand that Richmond's achilles heel for at least 10 years is skill, and in particular players who can kick well under pressure. Some of his recruiting choices are not only dumb, they border on arrogant.

Second, he needs to respect the history of pain us supporters have endured. Richmond has been plagued by a mis-guided and frankly mystifying opinion that "we are not far away". In KB's day it was "we have some great kids and will be a force in a few years". In short, Richmond has excelled at talking and been wafer-thin on action for a long time now. This silly article merely perpetuates that. To think that a flag would be possible after a few high picks in one draft; to think that it's that easy to "pick a matchwinner" at pick 8, like all we have to do is will it to happen, is absurd.

Given the club was unaware that Miller was issuing an apology to members on Monday, it's hard to imagine Terry Wallace being too chuffed with this article in October 2005.

Miller has value - find his best role and let him do it 100%. And FFS no half-hearted efforts on the recruiting department. We need serious resources and we need them now.

The only thing a little dodgy is that that quote appears cut in half..

Not like a journalist to do that is it? :spin

I wonder what context the quote was taken in? Finals? Competitive etc...

I don't think it matters ToO. Whatever context Miller was reffering too he was wrong unless the completed quote referred to challenging for a Wooden Spoon in which case he was right. As pointed out by other posters he, and perhaps the club and Wallace over rated the list severely in 2005 and taking only 3 picks in the ND was stupidity of the highest order.

If Ottens had wanted to stay I suspect we wouldn't have had so many picks in the 2004 ND either.

Little doubt several mistakes have been made jb but that was the biggest.

Astounding in retrospect.

Was astounding at the time as well. Blind freddy could see that - just not Wallace/Miller & Co.

So true !

Miller has made huge blunders and continues to do so with his mouth, and Terry has caught that as well from him.

As i said and will continue to say prior to Terry arriving at the club(yes thanks to Miller), he had years on him to see which players could take us to "challenge" 2007. When Terry arrived he too would have had prior knowledge to our list. That draft 2005 as nt good enough to have only so few picks and as highlighted if Ottens had stayed it would have been worse. Alot of players hould have been gone , which would have enabled us to have extra picks and start the process than 2005 with the kids then to be starting it now 2007, which will leave us still many years before we see any finals let alone any success.

So Terrys 2009/2011 looks spot one.

Both need to concentrate on the job at hand.

Terry to coach and guide the list

Miller either football director or recruiter, but since Jackson is doing that now he cant have his hand in the pie. Its either one or the other. As far as his involvement in recruiting the jury is well and truly out.

Rating; poor

Someone elluded to this which i have implied somewhat considering what i read in an article re the press conference where Terry spoke if it starts affecting his family.

My quote" if this continues and the side continues this slide , watch Terry resign, jump ship ala the doggies.

Sheedy to leave the dons- fairy tale to come back to the tigers

Danihers contract not renewed- to the dons

AND Terry possibly to a better list -the demons

At seasons end so many questions will need to addressed by Terry, Miller and co.

If they both stay and are not forced to quit- the n# 1 priority is to recruit some hard nuts(kids), mature body types, a ruckman, key postion backman and forward. If we finish bottom and we odds on this drft will be in my eyes the MOST CRUCIAL ONE FOR THE TIGERS IN DECADES.
