PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

These are the players I feel really have something to prove leading into '07. You might have other ideas..

Andrew Krakouer
Much maligned player in the final year of a three year contract.
Despite a slight improvement this year, if Krak's going to stay a Tiger at the end of '07 he must play consistent footy. Everyone knows Krak has the skills and on his day is a game breaker but with pressure on from younger, faster, fitter players, Krak has to make every post a winner to earn another contract.

Jay Schulz
No more defending Jay from me.
2007 is the year Jay has to stamp his name on a position in the senior side. With the retirement of Stafford he should be given every opportunity to do so and justify the club's faith in him.
His kicking and marking skills have been well documented. Over the off season he needs to dramatically improve his fitness, muscle mass & agility below the knees.
He has well and truly completed his apprenticeship & must take the next step in 07.

Danny Meyer
Like Schulz, this 2004 dp12 is a player that must step up in 07.
No doubt Meyer has silky skills and his performance against Geelong during the year showed what he might be capable of. However the light frame and apparent lackadaisical attitude will hold him back unless he can improve both of these areas.
After only being offered a one year contract extension, the coaching staff are rightly expecting more from this player. He has progressed the least of the "fab five" from '04 and as a small player; Danny needs to start exerting his influence in matches to justify his high selection.

Brent Hartigan
Somewhat the forgotten man in '06, this youngster is really at the crossroads with the Tigers.
After seemingly falling out of favour with TW, it's fair to say last year he was leapfrogged by players such as Raines & White. With question marks lingering over his disposal and more damning his inability to follow instruction, he finds himself under the pump. However I firmly believe not all is lost for Brent and with the retirement of Chaffey there will still be opportunities for him at the senior level. Whether he can grasp those opportunities will be up to him.

Chris Hyde

Monsta had a pretty solid year in 06 and I'm loathe to put his name in here. However, despite adding goalkicking to his resume last year and having an impressive run & carry game, with a host of quick and skilful youngsters waiting in the wings, he will need to to continue to improve.
Question marks still hover on his lack of a right foot and along with a few others needs to lift his workrate off the ball.

Nathan Brown

Perhaps a surpise name on the list for some but '07 shapes as the biggest in NG Brown's career to date.
Two years on from a severe injury and on big money, there will be pressure on Nathan to perform.
2006 was basically a disaster for him. His performances were far from convincing and despite shown glimpses of the old Browny, it wasn't anything like what you would expect from our elite player.
At his best there is no doubting his abilities but whether his leg permits him to return to that player is the question.
At 29 years old and in the last year of his contract, Browny has to start playing well again.
