2007 Nathan Foley President's Report

During the first quarter, Foley-- a poor to average field kick by nature-- posted up just inside the attacking arc. The ball came back to him and although he did not have possession for more than a second he was able to spot up Deledio in space (he wasn't in space as yet, just maybe heading there). The ball could not have been kicked better. By that I mean that hardly any AFL players could have executed that foot pass. Genius.

That was the best of his kicks for the night but there were two others similar.

It's one thing to patch the holes in your game, another to turn them into strengths.

Spot on Jack. Foley's run & carry and more importantly his penetration by foot was eye catching last night.
If he keeps up that sort of form I am serious when suggesting he might be our next Brownlow medalist.
The improvement in his game has been off the charts.

That was the play of the night for me Jack.

Just a superb piece of artistry that very few would even see as a option, let alone have the gumption to try it and actually pull it off. It was a lofted wedge over a pack that went higher then it did longer but it had to be there at exactly the right moment, if it hung to long Lids gets smashed.

A thinking mans kick.

The real question now is how good can he be?

Are we looking at a pacey Scotty West for the next 10 years?

That little spot up to Lids really astounded me. Foley has one of the sharpest footy brains at the club at the moment. His vision and decision making were elite last night. His ability to spot up player like lids and the one to Tivvers in the blink of an eye was amazing.

This kid has made some of the biggest steps this year I think I have seen at this level........

Sensational stuff.

Foley is going really well but his disposal is a concern.

Have to agree some what there MB, is an absolute running machine and hard at it but disposal does let him down at times...in saying that he has taken his game to another level this year.

Granted that a player improves with experience and confidence as Foley has shown - he is also very coachable and works on all areas of his game BUT his vision and ability to find a traget in traffic has always been a feature of his game. Early days he reiled more on his hands than his feet but the ability to spot a target and then devising a means to find him has always been a Foley feature - that's why I always thought he was a freak - He hasn't all of a sudden found pace although he exploits it better. What he is doing now doesnt surpise me - in fact, I had expected him to be getting more 30 plus disposal games by now as that was his go at the lower levels - but that will come in time - Lets hope Cogs gets back to something near his best because when your gun mids are up and running then your second and third tiers like Hyde and Tivendale all of a sudden look a whole lot better.

gotta agree dyere

Has become an elite player

very unique also, not many have his absolute single minded ness to get the ball out and the hands to do so, he also has great strength in shrugging player off him in the tackle, almost coughlan at his best like. The thing tha makes him a gun IMHO apart from his improved disposal is his pace, he has genuine break away pace

He reminds me a bit of Johnny Platten these days, hard at the contest, great skills and tremendous pace, get him to grow an afro have a receding hairline and he can win a *smile* brownlow, he is that good ! ;)

Richo was aslked about Foley on "Before the Game" last night, he said he was the hardest worker at the Club.

(Hmmm, so the media are starting to sit up and take notice of our Weeble too ;))

Yep time to get the lemon rinse happening Axel. ;)

We've been screaming out to draft an inside mid and yet we've now got one of the best in the comp! 8)

The ABC commentators have been in Weeble's corner for ages. Nice to see the rest of the media finally catching up.

i'm serious when i say this, foley is mini-judd.

Might come a time when Judd is referred to as a 'wannabe Foley'! :hihi

Apart from his dogged ability to get the hard pill his other great attribute is his unwillingness to waste a single possesion.Very rarely panics.Runs the lines hard too.

It's nice to be suprised on the upside for once.

Very good player. It'll be a travesty if he doesn't win our B+F.

Looks like the Age journos have been taking notice.

On the flip side he doesn't rate a mention in the top 30 in the Hun

Can someone coach him to stop bouncing the ball every 8 metres. What the hell is rule now, 15m? Tuck ran about about 25 for his city end goal. Or is Weeble just practicing bouncing?
