Kel displayed solid form for Coburg and his form warranted senior selection to bolster the Tigers’ defence on a number of occasions throughout the season. His form at senior level was solid, if unspectacular. He did feature in the PRE Player of the Year polling and represents the first ranked player. He could turn out to be a useful defender if he can gain some confidence at senior level, but he will need to show some good form in 2008.

One of the biggest differences in the Tigers’ line up this season was the absence of a fit Troy Simmonds. After pushing for AA honours in 2006, Troy suffered from injury for most of 2007 and struggled to regain fitness in the 10 matches he played. A fit and firing Snake-man in 2008 will make the world of difference to the Tigers. Let’s hope his recovery from the potentially serious pulmonary embolism goes smoothly.

Matty White struggled to have a big impact in 2007 and was limited to only 7 games. He appeared occasionally in the votes for the PRE Player of the Year and finished in 29th. Hopefully he’ll be able to have a big preseason (after the Burgers finish up) and come out firing in 2008.

Our first pick in the 2006 National Draft made his debut in round 9 and went on to play 8 rounds in 2007. Although Jack didn’t have a huge impact in any of the games and thus, in the PRE Player of the Year polls, there were a number of promising signs, especially in his vocal enthusiasm and apparent leadership skills. I look forward to witnessing his continued development in 2008.

After a solid start to the season Andy fell away badly and struggled for form throughout the season. Krak only ended up playing 9 games for the season and the serious questions must now be asked about his ongoing position on the Tigers’ list. Although he showed glimpses of his freakish skills, his inability to gather possessions makes him a liability.

After a cracking pre-season and elevation onto the senior list Cam managed to play 15 rounds this season. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a great impact in many games a failed to garner many votes in the PRE Player of the Year polls. Cam is another that could go either way when the tough decisions are made in the off-season.

Dean’s season was cut short due to a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. He managed to play 8 games prior to his early end of the season and showed some glimpses of good form to poll in the PRE Player of the Year. Hopefully he will be fit and ready for a full pre-season in 2008.

The 2007 season proved to be the last for the former AA full back. Darren suffered from injury problems during the last years of his career and decided to call it a day when it became apparent that our floundering season meant that he might not hold his spot in the senior side in favour of ‘blooding’ the kids. In the 5 games he played in 2007 Gas managed to rack up 44 votes in the PRE Player of the Year, showing that he was still able to play a role as a key defender and this was recognised by the voters on PRE.

2007 would have to go down as a disappointing year for Jay. It was hoped that he would be able to cement a spot in the forward line, but his apparent inability to work in a forward line with Richo meant that he struggled to really impact on many games this season. Jay ended up playing only 12 games for the season and now rumours have begun to circulate about possible trades. With our dearth of quality big-men and Jay’s young age (he is only 22) there is a realistic chance that he will still be a Tiger in 2008.

The Cleaver managed 7 games in his second year, but like many KPP at his age he didn’t have a huge impact. Let’s hope he can bulk up further in the coming pre-season and find a permanent spot in the Tiger line-up in 2009.

Dan Connors represented one of the personal highlights of the season for me. He has that confidence and aggression that this club has been sorely lacking for some time. He also appears to have some skill to go along with it. Obviously I wasn’t the only one to share this view as Dan racked up 80 votes in the PRE Player of the Year in only 4 appearances. I am looking forward to watching Dan develop over the years.

Chris was in and out of the side throughout the season, so it is hard to gauge what the long-term plans of the coaching staff are in regards to his future. Chris did play some nice cameo roles during the season, earning him a top 20 finish in the PRE Player of the Year.

After a breakout 2006 Raines struggled to have the same impact in 2007. This can be seen as he accrued the lowest number of PRE Player of the Year votes of any player who played all 22 games of the season. His season was not without highlights, but he will need to sharpen up some of those kicking skills and concentrate on what he does best, which is running straight out of defence and breaking the lines.

‘Lace-Out’ Luke had a number of big tasks assigned to him during 2007, but took great strides in his development as a 3rd tall in the backline. Luke showed desperation, aggression and fearlessness (including against a fired up Barry Hall!) and hopefully a good preseason to add to his light frame and work on his disposal skills will allow him to come out firing in 2008.

Pattison had a load of responsibility thrust on his shoulders in 2007 due to injuries to the Tigers’ senior ruckmen. He tended to be outperformed in the ruck, but performed his duties admirably under the conditions. Patto displayed a willingness to work hard and a big motor to run out games. Although it was a tough year, it will probably do him the world of good in experience as he progresses through his career.

Dan had a solid year in 2007 and ensured himself a spot going into 2008. His ability to closely check dangerous opponents, while managing to gather possession for himself was a stand out. He imposed himself on a number of games in the season and lifted the team with some outstanding efforts. For a 21 year old with a big frame, who has played less than 50 matches, the future looks bright.

Another highlight in a dismal year was the return to form of Nathan Brown. There were glimpses of vintage Brown in the second half of the season and considering he only played half of the season a top 15 finish in the PRE Player of the Year is a solid return. A fit Nathan Brown in 2008 could make the world of difference to the Tigers’ side.

Sugar played a different role than he played in his Jack Dyer Medal winning year and struggled to make a real impact for most of the season. He played under an injury cloud for most of the games and his final position in the PRE Player of the Year was largely due to a late showing of good form, capped off by a BOG performance against the Bombers in round 21.

Tuck had a solid if unspectacular year playing in the guts. He seems to have improved his disposal a bit over previous years, but it is an area of his game that could still use some work. He plays an important role for the team as a tough, in-and-under midfielder and it is no surprise that his best performance of the season coincided with the Tigers’ first win.

Shane appears to be a favourite of Terry and it isn’t hard to see why. His sublime evasion skills and handpassing were on display for a good part of the season. Shane doesn’t stop running and appears to have good endurance for a kid in his first season. A few pre-seasons into Shane to add some bulk to his very small frame and I think we are going to have a special player for the Tigers.
