For those us us who don't have much of a clue would you mind elaborating please Pharace. What do the mentors actually do? How involved are they with their players? What are the limitations mentioned and what are the benefits.

I work with a current mentor , he has been on the list since its conception and has had several players during this time. I know last year he was placed on the list without his knowledge and never spoke with the player. The other players he spoke with about 1-2 time over the phone. During these times football was very rarely spoken about as it was mainly business and academics, I have not spoken to our former player about this year but I will back it in he know's bugger all about it at this stage.

Clayton Collard – Phil Egan
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls – Phil Egan
Richard Tambling – Phil Egan

No offence to Jacky, but the last two need fresh mentors, someone who'll tell them the truth. As for the one with the autrocious hair do, giving him a mentor will be a waste of time.

Surely the club would be proactively communicating this to all concerned, if not then whoever is responsible for it's coordination should be taken to task

This is too important for it to be managed poorly. I hope it's not as bad as that and wouldn't want this initiative tarnished unnecessarily.

Hopefully our Players and Mentors aren't shy and feel comfortable to pick up the phone or make those personal visits as proactively & frequently that their schedules can afford.

Everyone needs Mentors, in some shape or form and at various times in our lives .................. everyone.

Mentor programs have been used in the business world for some time, and do have value when both parties want something out of it.

To be fair, the club acknowledges that for some its nothing more than the odd chat (if that). For others, the feedback and the interaction has been much greater and beneficial. If those who get value from it benefit, and others have no harm, who cares?
