All positions will soon be declared vacant in preparation for the 2009 season. It would be great if all of the 2008 player presidents/vice presidents could give a bit of a run down on their charges 2008 season.

Rosy's 2008 Player President Report-Mitch Morton

Mitch Morton.

Unfortunately I didn’t see Mitch play one game live this season…in fact I didn’t see any of our players live, so I humbly apologise for not being as good a President as I would have liked to have been.

Mitch came to us, via The Weagles where he was selected as a F/S choice in the 2004 draft, this year. Donning the #20 Mitch played 17 games, a step up from only 12 games over his previous 3 seasons for his former club. Mitch slotted well into our forward line kicking 35 goals 16 behinds. Not a bad feat when 32 goals has been enough to win Richmond’s goal kicking in the past. Throw in 131 kicks, 60 handballs, 80 marks, and 50 tackles and it’s easy to see Mitch was a valuable contributor in his first season as a Tiger and earned his place in our best 22 players.

Mitch has been quoted as saying the season was about getting respect back. He felt he’d let himself down at the Weagles by not getting a lot of game time and, when he did, not playing the type of footy he wanted to play.

Richmond are the only club Mitch spoke to about being drafted in 2007 and was stoked we selected him. He appreciates the fact we showed faith in him when he was a bit down and backed him while still playing him allowing him to run back into a bit of form. (Source-Inside Footy)

Mitch has had a very serviceable season and, only being 21 years old, has an exciting career as a Tiger ahead of him.

Well done Mitch and good luck for bigger and better things next season. :gotigers

Jarrod Silvester

Jarrod came to Richmond last year from Coburg, taken in the rookie draft. He played one NAB Cup game against St Kilda and then played nearly the entire season (17 games) in defense at Coburg, only missing the last few games because of a broken hand. As of the first list lodgment, he was the only rookie to be retained for 2009.

He was listed 7 times in the best's for Coburg, with 3 BOGs. He came second behind Greg Tivendale in the Jim Sullivan medal (Coburg B&F). He was equal third (with Cartledge and Hughes) in Coburg's JJ Liston voting, behind Tivendale and Fort Caruso. He was also named in the VFL Team of the Year, at full back.

One thing I've noticed during the year is the constant classification of Jarrod as a dud by numerous posters. I hope the achievements I've listed above might help change their mind, or at least halt this dud-calling business. At VFL level, Jarrod is an exceptional player. Defensively he's one of the best in the league. He may not have the skill or speed required to be a successful AFL player, but that's why he's on the rookie list. He's an experiment. And his performances, both this year, and in years previous, have warranted him receiving this chance.

Sadly, the most notable event involving Jarrod this year was the first list lodgement a few weeks ago, where he was the only rookie retained. This sparked a mass outbreak of incredulity among various learned (and unlearned) internet posters. I wrote this post back then in response to all the incredulity, which sums up my feelings about Jarrod rather nicely. In fact, I couldn't agree with me more on that one...

Will he survive the next couple of list lodgments? With potentially 6 new rookies coming onto the list (including one Irish bugger), I'd say he will. Good luck in 2009 Jarrod.

Good work Sky and with facts to back it up. He may be able to take the next step, maybe. There were plenty of PRExperts who wrote Kel Moore off as well. Now the same ones are singing his praises.
Who knows, if Sly stays he may make the grade or provide some depth. Good luck to him (and you Sky ;D ) if he stays on.
I, for one hope any and all our players make the grade (for our clubs sake) big ask, I admit, but better that than some who want to denigrate our players and then hope they're proved right.
Can't see the point of that myself.

Nathan Brown
Nathan Brown was back to his near best in Season 2008 playing a match winning role in the Tigers forward line kicking 35 goals and 21 points for the year! Browny, whose previous 3 seasons had been interrupted by injury, played 18 games including a match winner against Essendon.

Brown always provided a good target for the mighty Tigers grabbing 111 marks for the season. Browny was also used dangerously in the midfield by Wallace doing a great job on a number of occasions most notably in round 13 against Port Adelaide where he steadied the ship in the 3rd quarter.

Once again Browny never let the Tigers down with his centimetre perfect silky skills (except possibly in the centenary match). Overall Nathan Brown had a typical classy season finishing 9th in the B&F and will be ready for a huge 2009!!!

Pleasure to be your Player President and best of luck for next year!

Daniel Connors

After a promising debut in 2007, injury delayed his 2008 pre-season though he did play in Coburg's Round 1. I didn't see very many Coburg games this year but got to the Geelong game that was a curtain raiser at the MCG (BTW Bring it back - The Curtain Raiser!). Pretty impressed with his game that day.

According to the Rawlings Reports in the EOTT, Dan was achieving a good deal of success when he was switched to running out of half back, eventually getting promoted for the Round 15 game against WCE at Souvlako. He didn't play a bad game that day but someone had to go to make room for Willy T coming back from injury and unfortunately for Dan the selectors chose him.

Worked his way back to the Seniors for the final 3 rounds, played well in all 3 including a 3-goal haul in our win over the Hawks.

He's laid the groundwork for a successful 2009 and adding another famous name to Locker No. 39. Proud to be your Pres this year, Dan.

Matthew Richardson

276 Games 791 Goals, polled 22 votes and finished 3rd in 2008 Brownlow(one would suggest a little stiff not to poll votes against freo r21) & All Australian.
33 years old and has still got the pace and tank to dwarf most footballers matched up on him. 2008 has by far been the Richo mans most electrifying and consistent, All the critics would of been silenced if he stole the brownlow, which is indicative of his form this year.
Richo I beleive understands that he is in his halcyon years and is living it up, enjoying his football knowing each game only draws him closer to the end of the road...Richo is a true tiger, will do anything for the RFC and its success and long term future. You could see the agony on his face in the games with the Saints, Bulldogs. During the year matthew took the afl by storm and has embedded himself as one of all time greats, @ 33 he is still a power player, his love for the game, and the respect for his body and the fact he came so close to success of finals & brownlow, will push this mans mindset to acheive his dream before he goes.

IMHO I think Matthew this year learnt just how much it takes to achieve success, 2009 will bear many fruits for Matthew and the RFC. Trust me he will be fitter & hungier!!

Matthew thank you for your service, your thrills & spills, I dread the day you finish your illustrious career, but I know how you tick, keep up your form, look after your body a little more and there would be no reason why when you turn 36 you will be entering the premireship year!!!

Joel went from demon to demigod in 2008. After an ordinary start out of the gate, a return to the seniors saw Joel hand us victory in two games (might have been more but I cant remember). Rushed behinds to get us over the line?? Who gives a malfunctioning fig...we won! Accuracy in front of goal in the dying seconds of another game...wunderbar!

He's also a fine looking young man! If only I was younger....

To maintain my dribbling demeanour in the face of profound beauty...can I be Deledio's president in 2009?

I just wish the timing was better aligned, so we could have had Sylvester and Daffy in the same team.

That would be like Abbott and Costello together in the Cabinet.
